Regardless last week’s loss, their 5-6 record or the short week, this is not the time to be short-handed against the Saints.

But that’s the situation the Falcons could be in, based on Tuesday’s practice.

Starting cornerbacks Asante Samuel (shoulder) and Dunta Robinson (illness) did not practice, in advance of Thursday night’s game at the Georgia Dome.

While Robert McClain has played sufficiently well as their third since Brent Grimes went on IR, pushing too deep in the secondary gets you down to Dominique Franks and Christopher Owens.

That’s a tough spot to be in against the one team the Falcons lost to this season.
