The Giants suffered a blow to their backfield on Sunday night when Andre Brown broke his leg.

It left the team with just three running backs on the active roster, a number that includes fullback Henry Hynoski. Given Ahmad Bradshaw’s chronic foot issues and internal skepticism about rookie David Wilson’s fitness for an expansive role in the offense at this time, it seemed the Giants would need to add someone to the mix for the rest of the season.

They appear to have found that someone. According to multiple Giants beat writers, the Giants have decided to sign Kregg Lumpkin. Lumpkin worked out for the team during their bye week and again on Tuesday, beating out other veterans who worked out for the team like Ryan Grant, Ryan Torain and Cadillac Williams for the gig.

Lumpkin spent 2011 with the Buccaneers, rushing for 105 yards on 31 carries and catching 41 passes for 291 yards. Lumpkin signed with the Packers in 2008 as an undrafted free agent and started this year with the Seahawks before getting released.
