Hours after he found out that the Eagles were cutting him, defensive end Jason Babin said he has no hard feelings toward coach Andy Reid, and that he’s eager to win games for whatever team he plays for next.
“I think the guys really respect him, they respect the situation, they respect the heat he takes for the team,” Babin said of Reid in an interview with Trey Wingo on NFL Live. “It’s a tough environment, the Philadelphia media market.”
Babin said he would like to see Reid get credit for the work he has done in Philadelphia, and not get branded as a loser on his way out the door.
“He’s been there so long, he’s done a lot,” Babin said. “He doesn’t want to go out on a sour note.”
Now that the Eagles have placed Babin on waivers, any team that wants him and is willing to take on his contract can claim him within the next 24 hours. If multiple teams claim him, the team with the highest waiver priority (which basically means the team with the worst record) will get him. If no team claims him, he’ll become an unrestricted free agent.
Babin isn’t sure what to expect, but he did indicate that he wants to play for a winner.
“Maybe it was the best thing for me,” Babin said. “I think it’s pretty clear what my intentions are. I like to win, I like to compete, I like to sack the quarterback. I imagine there’s someone out there looking for that.”
If there is a team out there looking for that, a guy who has 36 sacks in the last three seasons is available.
