Lions coach Jim Schwartz said he won’t talk to defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh about kicking Texans quarterback Matt Schaub in the groin on Thanksgiving. That’s because Schwartz is so sure Suh didn’t mean to do it that he doesn’t even think there’d be anything to talk about.
Asked on 97.1 FM in Detroit if he addressed the incident with Suh, Schwartz said, “There’s nothing to address.”
Schwartz said the NFL’s announcement on Monday that Suh would not be suspended was exactly what he expected to hear.
“I wasn’t at all surprised that it didn’t warrant any kind of suspension or anything,” Schwartz said. “Ndamukong, I think, has done an outstanding job of staying free of penalties this year. I think he’s had one offside penalty the whole year. I think that’s been very commendable on his part. And there’s going to be a camera on him every single play. That’s just life in the city when you’re a player of his profile. And when that happens, there’s going to be all kinds of things that people can interpret any way they want. I think that was one of those situations.”
Schwartz said he was aware that Schaub said Suh isn’t worthy of playing on the Texans, but Schwartz said he isn’t worried about that.
“I did see the headline, but I didn’t read anything more, hear anything more about it,” he said. “He’s worried about his team, we’re worried about ours. I think we’ll just leave it at that.”
And Schwartz is happy that the NFL has left Suh available to the Lions this week.
