Titus Young “potentially” sitting out rest of season

Titus Young AP

It’s been more than a week since the Lions told wide receiver Titus Young that he needn’t bother coming to work and it doesn’t sound like they’ll be asking him back any time soon.

When Schwartz first sent Young, who wasn’t at practice Tuesday, home, he said it was because Young put himself above the team. He was asked whether Young would miss the rest of the season as a result.

“Potentially,” Schwartz said, via Anwar Richardson of MLive.com. “This is a decision who the best 46 were on Sunday. That will continue to be evaluated. There’s been times he’s been very productive in our offense. He’s been an asset for our offense, an asset for our team. That’s where he needs to get back to.”

Schwartz said that both the team and Young “needed a little time away,” before saying that his chances of playing again would be based on what he does when he’s with the team rather than what he does while he’s away. None of it left anyone with any idea of what the future holds for Young in Detroit, but the first game without him offered no evidence that they’d be calling him back because of need.

Matthew Stafford threw for 441 yards and Ryan Broyles, whose role expanded greatly with Young gone, had six catches for 126 yards. Young’s put up 383 yards in 10 games this season, so the offense clearly gets along just fine without him.

What a failure. He is a diva, but without talent.

Maybe Suh can take this youngster under his wing. Oh, right … sorry.

    Bad Coaching… Good Players

To say this guy isn’t talented is very wrong.

    But he is a punk.

  5. mintberrycrunch1 says: Nov 27, 2012 8:15 PM

I think he has Brandon Marshall type mental problems. Hopefully he gets he head right and turns things around, but I’m not holding my breath.

What did Calvin have to say about Titus?

“Titus not being here – he’s been a distraction the last few weeks whether it being him just not being fully prepared or not showing up to things when we have things on the schedule – him not being there on time. It’s just him not being a professional, put it like that. Pointblank, simple.” – CJ

Let him sit. They don’t need him. Broyles looked pretty good against Houston and he’s only going to get better.

  8. davikes says: Nov 27, 2012 8:29 PM

He must of done something really, really bad to get the stay at home treatment, when Suh kicks a guy in the nuts and gets a pass from the coach.

I love CJ taking a more vocal approach with this team he is by far the best player and example to the entire league that you can be the best in your position in the entire league not be a diva (also A. Johnson and Fitz) I really like the fact that the league has transitioned from having the best WR being diva’s to the best WR being great teammates.

As far as Titus, he has all the talent to be a great #2 he has speed and great hands, mentally he is just not there yet. I would not be surprised if he has a Vernon Davis type turn around, I just dont think Detroit will be the place he will do it.

Wow. The Lions really are having issues with these clowns.

The Lions hit a homerun with Calvin Johnson, but they have drafted a lot of recievers that haven’t panned out, whether it be attitude or skillset.

Usually sitting out the rest of the season is usually a pre-cursor to finding a new team.

Titus has so much talent, just had a kid, now it’s his Turn to grow up!

  13. WatchThis says: Nov 27, 2012 9:06 PM

The way ex-Lions seem to thrive on other teams, the Lions probably hope he goes to a division rival.

  14. mintberrycrunch1 says: Nov 27, 2012 9:15 PM

It only took 1 comment before someone randomly mentioned Suh….obsessed much?

Yeah a couple of off field issues in pre-season, it seemed like they were able to hang together without too many distractions the first half, but now its coming undone, and I can’t wait to see what they are going to try to do for a grand finale.

  16. stoptrippn says: Nov 27, 2012 9:22 PM

    No more chances

  17. taintedsaints2009 says: Nov 27, 2012 9:25 PM

Man, he must have REALLY screwed up for the lions to kick him to the curb.

  18. gridassassin says: Nov 27, 2012 9:27 PM

The Lions should have used another first rounder on a WR – this is what they get!!

  19. ghostofgilchrist says: Nov 27, 2012 9:30 PM

    Sounds like he’s been “Keyshoned”

@brd88: “Titus has so much talent, just had a kid, now it’s his Turn to grow up!” ?

    That’s alright. a kid raises a kid. it’s a party of kids.

  21. thefiesty1 says: Nov 27, 2012 9:35 PM

It’s just Detroit. Does it really matter?

  22. lks311 says: Nov 27, 2012 9:35 PM

And Randall Cobb was still on the board when they chose Young.

I understand that mistakes are made, but, at some point the people that make the decisions for the Lions need to man-up and tell their fans, we missed on this one. They can earn some public trust back with this one deed…instead of being aloof and acting as if he was some previous regime’s pick.

  23. stevemo says: Nov 27, 2012 9:44 PM

Also: 400 yards passing is the new 300.

  24. monkeyhateclean says: Nov 27, 2012 9:51 PM

You know who else had talent? Wally Pipp.

Bottom line: the Lions have too many problems to waste time on any player who’s not part of the solution.

noeffinway‘s CJ quote was very revealing of Young Sr’s character and his negative impact on his teammates.

Funny but Suh was found innocent of wrongdoing. Yet the Vikings’ Brian Robison was fined $20,000 by the NFL for INTENTIONALLY kicking the Packers T.J. Lang in the nuts last year. That’s because the Vikings are the real dirty players.

  26. stevenfbrackett says: Nov 27, 2012 9:55 PM

If they are really going to start sending home players who put themselves before the good of the team it won’t be long before they start having trouble fielding a team.

Lions beat writer (and the Lions best beat writer in my and most’s opinions) Dave Birkett with the Detroit Free Press.

davebirkett: Said on radio last week I think he playes elsewhere next yr RT @ManiLion_inOz: please make a prediction on Titus – cut, traded or suspended

  28. raiderapologist says: Nov 27, 2012 10:28 PM

I think he caught “indefinite” suspensions when he was in college, too. More likely to flame out than turn things around.

  29. detroitrollin22 says: Nov 27, 2012 11:01 PM

    Titus Young Jr.

  30. WatchThis says: Nov 27, 2012 11:08 PM

For all you who think the Lions have this huge problem of lack of discipline, who else except Suh and Titus are you talking about this season. I’m not asking about off-season incidents. I want to know who else has been a problem this season??? Who???

  31. donmega72 says: Nov 27, 2012 11:20 PM

This should have never been a surprise to the Lions’ brass. Titus was suspended for a year at BSU. He was rumored to be smoking too much tree. He has also been known to be a hothead around Boise. He was suspended numerous times in high school. Titus has a history of being a punk and I hope the Lions cut him.

  32. rubicon202 says: Nov 27, 2012 11:32 PM

He must be real bad if Detroit decides to bench him? Amazing, that level of athelete performance and can’t put his ego in check, WOW dude. It’s 2012 and T.O. already did that?
