The Pats may have to try to continue their winning streak without one of their first-round draft picks.

Tom Curran of CSNNE.com reports that defensive end Chandler Jones likely will miss a second straight game after suffering a sprained ankle in Week 11 against the Colts.

Jones had started all 10 games of the season, notching six sacks and becoming one of the favorite for defensive rookie of the year.

It’s unclear when Jones will return.

  1. Damn. Hopefully he can come back for the games against Houston and San Francisco. That’s when the Patriots will need him most, especially with Cunningham out. Hopefully Scott will be able to step up.

  2. I would look for former Raider Trevor Scott to step up, and perhaps for rookie Jake Bequette to play some snaps, as well. I suspect that Belichick is simply being cautious with Jones, and that we’ll see him next week against the Texans.

  3. Injuries are a big part of the NFL, every team deals with them. I’m sure Miami has missing pieces, too, so, next guy up. It stinks losing Cunningham for 4 games for taking speed, but, at least he’ll be back, healthy.

  4. The Pats roster has so much more depth than the Fins with most teams you would still think this was an easy victory.

Miami is always a trap game for the Pats and Brady though. They’ve won more than one game over the years the Pats were supposed to win.

  5. The Patriots will be focused this week, though as they can win the division with a win @ Miami.

Not having Jones sucks, but the backups aren’t bad players. Trevor Scott and Jake Bequette are serviceable, which means Belichick will get them to have a career game (somehow).

  6. Bequette showed some flashes of pretty good twitch speed off the line in the preseason, but i havent even heard his name at all since then. looks like i might start hearing it on sunday, hopefully its in a positive light.
