Less than two months after Saints quarterback Drew Brees broke John Unitas’ record of 47 straight games with a touchdown pass on national television, Brees’ streak has been broken. On national television. Like eggs on the windshield of a bus.

As part of their win over the Saints, the Falcons kept Brees from throwing a touchdown pass, snapping the NFL-record string at 54.

Along the way, the Falcons intercepted Brees a career-high five times.

Brees’ streak began on October 18, 2009. By next season, the record could be broken. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has thrown a touchdown pass in 43 straight games. He would set the new record midway through the 2013 season.
