Jets OL coach cranky about decisions made “high above” him

The Jets are switching things up on their offensive line this week, but be careful asking the offensive line coach about it.

Assistant Dave DeGuglielmo was clearly displeased with the idea of rotating Vlad Ducasse in for Matt Slauson at left guard, saying the decision came “from high above me.”

“I don’t know,” DeGuglielmo said, via Conor Orr of the Newark Star-Ledger. “Nobody tells me directly where it’s coming from. I just get the word that this guy’s going in. Coordinator tells me what to do, I do it.”

OK, then.

Rex Ryan said later he was the guy “high above,” his assistant, but it was clear DeGuglielmo isn’t wild about having to play Ducasse.

“He’s played well enough to be an every third series guy,” DeGuglielmo said of the former second-round pick. “Maybe.”

And of Slauson, who has been starting?

“Slauson is a big, tough, smart, strong kid. That’s what he is. There are too few of those guys in the world.”

DeGuglielmo was apparently crabby about having to talk to reporters at all, saying he thought linemen in general take too much criticism.

“Have you ever heard ‘those tight ends didn’t block well today? Those tight ends had a s—– year blocking? I mean come on,” he said.

This is beyond clown car, this is the kids in the back seat yelling at each other, and at some point Ryan or GM Mike Tannenbaum, or whoever the “high above,” happens to be is going to have to drop a “don’t make me pull this car over.”

Never in the history of the NFL has more ‘ink’ been wasted on a Team with so little talent.

I find it hard to believe that Ducasse would be an upgrade over Slauson. I also don’t think DeGuglielmo’s comments will help his relationship with his own players. Just a bad situation all around.

Ahhhh, you just have to love how the Jets sideshows never end.

Keep the laughs coming for at least 5 more weeks Rex !!!!!!!

The only thing this story is missing is a quote from Bart Scott asking what he thinks. Then things would surely find a way to blow up even more spectacularly. Surely he has a an opinion, somebody stick a microphone in his face please!

Don’t jump to conclusions about this situation yet. We still haven’t heard from the philisophical and insighful veterans Mr. Cromartie or Santonio Holmes.

He just threw Vlad under the Bus and ran him over a few times.

Vlad is an obvious bust but that coach just sealed his fate with the NFL. I wouldn’t play for a guy that praised one guy by totally dissing another.

The part that is left out of the Ducasse/Slauson story is that Slauson’s contract is up after this year. It looks like once again the Jets will nickle and dime their OL. Because that has worked so well the last 5 years.

So sick of watching my team self destruct

Give Tebow a series or two at Guard.

When the Jets OL coach is getting press, u know the “Rex Show” is ending sooner than expected.

  11. pemory says: Nov 29, 2012 10:54 PM

All that really matters about this is what does Tebow think?

  12. frostymugobeer says: Nov 29, 2012 11:10 PM

    Who cares…it’s the Jets?

  13. jeffa43 says: Nov 29, 2012 11:28 PM

Can someone please interview Santonio on this subject? Better yet presidential style debate…

Santonio & Chromartie as the two representatives for both sides… That I would pay good money for.

This Deguglielmo sounds more interesting than Rex.

Well, I guess Woody Johnson got his wish (you know, the one he used when he picked up Tebow): everybody’s paying attention to his team now.

This is the perfect example of who the Jets truly are. Ducasse has been terrible since HardKnocks. Just about every paly he is in ends with a QB or RB on his backside behind the line of scrimmage and Big Ugly Vlad with his head on a swivel looking for the guy he was supposed to block. He should have been cut after he broke Turner’s leg last pre season. They reeeeaaaaaallllly should have cut him after his heinous performance in the Ravens game. This management refuses to admit mistakes and the owner pinches the quarter until the eagle screams. woody only wants his name in the paper and thinks he is smart because he was born rich. He doesn’t care about winning and won’t really spend.

god, i hope you’re not right about this. i hope they want to find out if the guy not having enough reps is the reason he can’t learn his role better. sure it would be embarassing if you fail badly with a draft pick. worse would be if someone else picks him up and makes him go (woodhead)
