Sometimes a guy will kill himself by posting something. This is one of those times.

The scuttle is that Young’s attitude issues increased exponentially after his one good game against the Seahawks (9 catches, +100 yards, 2 TDs). He decided that he was a superstar and the team needed him more than he needed the team.

I know this is an unpopular viewpoint, but I like the way Schwartz is handling this. And I apologize for the length of my explanation … but cut me some slack for seeing this from a different perspective.

My gut reaction is the same as everyone else’s — it’s a team sport and if you’re not a team player then you’ve got no business on the team. However, I’m tempering that with being an old and geezerly guy who was once young and a royal pain in the butt to my employers.

Young’s behavior shows obvious maturity issues (duh!). Schwartz is offering Young a chance to not only salvage his NFL career (which Young has completely sabotaged), but to salvage himself.

If benching this kid and putting him through the ringer teaches him to stop being a selfish jerk, he’ll be a better teammate, player, and person. We used to call this pulling someone aside and having a “come to Jesus” moment with him.

If Young chooses to continue to be an idiot, he’s gone after the season. The season is almost over anyway, so it’s worth taking a shot at helping this kid straighten out his life.

If Young actually starts to “get it”, going through all of this and coming out better will strengthen not just Young, but the whole team. Sounds crazy, but it happens. Even if they have to cut him, no one in that locker room will say the Lions/Schwartz didn’t make a total effort to help the kid – and that also helps build team loyalty.

If the mailman pulled out a gun and started shooting at you for no reason, and then forgot to deposit your mail, then you have a much bigger problem you need to focus on then wondering what junk mail you are missing that day.

Assuming that he’s guilty of purposely trying to sabotage the Lions’ offense, he should have been suspended without pay for the maximum amount of time allowed by the CBA and told to stay away for the remained of the season. The fact that this wasn’t done is emblematic of what is wrong with the Detroit Lions. Why should the players act in a disciplined manner when discipline isn’t enforced in any meaningful way by management?

You don’t need to be a genius to see that the lack of self-control exhibited by Lions’ personnel — from the head coach down to the players, is a problem, and the wrist slap given to Young for his outrageous behavior is a symptom of that problem. As for applying for a job with the Lions, I’ll leave that to “experts” such as yourself; you are obviously more in tune with the team’s way of doing things than I am.

To compare Brandon Marshall or Michael Crabtree to an idiot like Titus Young Sr. is ridiculous…From what little I’ve seen of Crabtree, he does his job and is liked by his teammates…And Marshall has been great since coming to the Bears, both on and off the field. He has owned up to his past while working to overcome BPD, and also educating others about the disease.

There is NO comparison between him and Young.

Is this suppose to be a dig on Raiola? I’ve watched every game of the Raiolas professional career and can only remember 1 time he was flagged for chop block and the replay shows clearly that it wasn’t a chop block.

Are you refferring to a cut block that is completely legal by the NFL rules?

As for Dom’s comments, he’s absolutely right. The team doesn’t need Titus. This stuff makes the Mike Thomas trade and Broyles pick make a lot more sense.

Titus put Sr on there because he had a kid, same with Leshoure. You guys can complain all you want but Leshoure has stayed quiet and done his job this season.
