bobzilla:

You are incorrect about "most everyone was still healthy" when they lost to the Raiders and Titans. Please go check the injury reports for those games. Further, Ben does not play every position on the team, he is not that versatile. And finally, I would say the same thing about when you make a comment, which is mostly hating on Ben for some reason only you know, which the stats don't support. Thanks.

BTW, they beat the Ravens yesterday, so your comment about "the 2012 Steelers simply aren't very good" is not necessarily true.

Everytime you post a comment, you embarrass every objective Steelers fan in existence (all three of us)...
Way back in the season, when most everyone was still healthy, including the superstar quarterback, the Steelers lost to both the 3-8 Raiders and the 4-7 Titans. Remember?
Those two losses should have served notice to you and others that the 2012 Steelers simply aren't very good.

If the Ravens don't pound the injury-riddled Steelers into the ground and win by a landslide, what does that mean as to the real quality and heart of the Ravens? If you can't easily beat a washed up 3rd string QB working behind a patchwork OL where the center has to play guard, what does that mean about your team? This will be really interesting to watch, since no one gives the Steelers a chance.

You can say what you want about Ben being a drama queen, but would he really sit out 3 AFC North games in a row, if it wasn't serious? Say what you will, but the guy is touch as nails, and if there was any chance at all, he would be out there. But you will still hear so many others claim, the injury wasn't serious, and Ben was just trying to create more drama. You don't have to like a player to respect the fact they can play the game better than most.

Interesting. I always had the impression that winning regular season games counts, otherwise you don’t get a chance to be in the Super Bowl. Who knew.

um no the purpose of winning games in the reg season is to make it to the playoffs so u can have a shot at playing in the SB.....for example the giants got in last year with a 9 -7 record and won it ALL...see how that works??

It's a shame that he ever got hurt. As a Ravens fan, I'd much rather play the Steelers when they're at their best. In terms of this game though, I don't think it really matters. The Steelers probably would have won in Pittsburgh with Big Ben, but I don't think that they would win in Baltimore even if he were healthy. The Ravens struggle on the road, but are a very hard team to beat at home.

Also, when was the last time the Ravens beat the Steelers in the playoffs (you know, when the games really count towards winning a real Super Bowl)?

At the end of the season, there won't be an asterisk under the Ravens' wins that Ben didn't play. So be it. Steelers move on, try to get our players healthy, and make a run at the playoffs, and maybe replicate what the Giants did last year.

Ravens have the division, and at best we'll end up with a six seed. So now we're playing with house money. Get everyone healthy and see what we can do.

BTW, give the Ravens their due -- this is four straight wins against us (some with Ben, some without), so they're doing something right. Next time though, Ravens, just don't drop a pass in the end zone or have your kicker miss a chip shot field goal -- otherwise we're going to be subjected to another Pats team in the SB (providing the Black & Gold don't run the table).

I told everyone yesterday he was not playing. Tomlin has learned his lesson about Ben's tendency to hurt the team when he goes hero on them.
holeinone09 says: Nov 30, 2012 2:53 PM

The question is, what will be said if you don’t, against a Steeler team running on about 4.5 of 8 cylinders? Yep, it would be pretty embarrassing if you don’t run the Steelers out of your stadium this Sunday, with all the key injuries they have, now wouldn’t it? It should be a blow out with them using a washed up third string QB and an old and slow defense with key injuries, right?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What happened to "next man up"? Let's also not forget that the Raven's defense is also suffering from a lot of injuries. The players any team puts on the field is all that matters. There are no asterisks on wins and losses.
Frankly from a strategy point of view, even if Ben could play it is smarter to save him for the late season run than risk extending an injury by playing a rival in a game that frankly will have little outcome in the standings for the Steelers.
It should be a blow out with them using a washed up third string QB and an old and slow defense with key injuries, right?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What happened to “next man up”? Let’s also not forget that the Raven’s defense is also suffering from a lot of injuries. The players any team puts on the field is all that matters. There are no asterisks on wins and losses.

Frankly from a strategy point of view, even if Ben could play it is smarter to save him for the late season run than risk extending an injury by playing a rival in a game that frankly will have little outcome in the standings for the Steelers.

I want to see the Pittsburgh defense put JoAnne Flacco & Co. in another 4th&29, and let's see them get out of it again.

Our 2nd string QB with broken ribs was inches away from victory (fade to Wallace in the EZ) against the Ravens whose offense failed to get into the end zone once. Our QB will now be downgraded even further and the O-line will have it's umpteenth configuration for the season. The Steelers defense must step way way up (minus Woodley) in this contest and deliver another shut-down performance in front of the Ravens home crowd. It will be epic if achieved.

I think pencilling in a Steelers loss this weekend isn't a bad way to go, but I wouldn't be ready to put the Bengals over the Chargers just yet - long trip to the West Coast against a team that will be playing mad.

Even if they do jump them they've still got to come to Pittsburgh and play Baltimore in Week 17 who will likely be looking at Home Field...

Congrats Ravens and their fans! You will likely win another in-season Super Bowl game this Sunday!

The question is, what will be said if you don't, against a Steeler team running on about 4.5 of 8 cylinders? Yep, it would be pretty embarrasing if you don't run the Steelers out of your stadium this Sunday, with all the key injuries they have, now wouldn't it? It should be a blow out with them using a washed up third string QB and an old and slow defense with key injuries, right?

Also, when was the last time the Ravens beat the Steelers in the playoffs (you know, when the games really count towards winning a real Super Bowl)?

Anything to knock the black and yellow out of the race, I am for.

Good call for Ben's health, though. He would have been out there with 11 lasers painted on his chest. Him playing would be akin to Tomlin calling in an airstrike on his own position.

The right call.

As much as it pains me to say it as a Steeler fan, good job Ravens. They won the games they were supposed to win, and the Steelers didn't (see Oakland and Tennessee), or they would only be a game behind Baltimore still fighting for the division and basically guaranteed a playoff spot.

So back to reality - four very winnable games remain, 3 of them at home. A playoff spot still is very much within reach.
