APThe 4-7 Jets have a favorable final stretch. In theory, they could run the table and finish 9-7.
So how can they make that happen? Injured cornerback Darrelle Revis has some advice: “Guys just need to shut up.”
That’s what Revis said Saturday, according to Kimberly A. Martin of Newsday. And he was more specific.
“Quit talking crazy to the media, especially involving your teammates,” Revis said. “I think that’s the worst, because when you do that, that’s when it really gets divided. Because you don’t know if you can trust your other teammate.”
He’s right. And there’s nothing like winning to get guys to zip it.
They can start on Sunday, 10 days after one of the most embarrassing losses in franchise history, by beating the Cardinals. After that, who knows what will happen?
As Revis would put it, the best thing to do is shut up and find out.

Isn’t Revis telling his teammates to shut up via the media the same thing?
The Jets should learn something from this guy, one of the only players I actually respect on the team. Hey Rex, you hear him?
Ryan Lindley has a better chance of making the Hall of Fame than the Jets do of going 9-7
signed, a lifelong depressed jet fan
The irony of calling out your teammates for talking through the media by talking through the media.
It starts with the coach. He allows his players to talk to the media. It would be hypocritical for Ryan to put a hammer on players who air the team’s dirty laundry when he runs to any camera in the vicinity. So-called team leaders in the locker room should also show some leadership and police themselves.
Smartest thing he’s ever said.
I know one thing they wont do, shut up.
So, he then proceeds to go to the media and talk crazy by telling his teammates to shut up.
Irony….
Sucks when your entire defense is out on ir. I mean revis is that entire defense
Um…..Pot/Kettle, Revis!!! J E T S sucks! Glad to see fireman Ed started with ur advice though!
Maybe Landry will flex on dem fools after a 50 yd completion
With Rex as the coach and Bart Scott on the roster, the chances of this team shutting up is less than the chances Lindsay Lohan avoiding getting arrested.
Also, don’t run head-first into offensive linemen’s buttocks.
It must suck being a Jets fan. LT rapes underage hookers but yet all they talk about is the Jets poor play and call them classless….
Tells players not to talk to the media.
To the media.
(begin slow clap)
That is good news
“Stop calling people out to the media” says Revis to the media
I hope Rexy understands that it includes him. Hell, it starts with him.
amen
Texans worthy !
finally a comment from a jet that isn’t stupid…who knew?
Thank you Revis. The Jets should shut the heck up. I just wish you didn’t have to go to the media to tell them that.
Smartest quote out of that locker room in years. …well …”Can’t wait” was pretty epic too.
Is it okay for us to laugh again? Too soon?
The man is right
Hallelujah!
Tooo late
Maybe fatso should shut up and lead by example.
This team has a tongue demon. Always has, beginning with Willie Joe Namath.
Revis just broke his own rule. Did he finish his diatribe with a “starting now”?
He’s right but unfortunately he has a head coach who can’t keep his mouth if his life depended on it
Well said Revis! Get well soon!
…However win or lose ‘our’ team continues to open and flap their mouths like gossiping high school girls, so IMO they need more than words of wisdom from you; they need to learn discipline from their coaches.
Pretty solid advice for Revis to advise all Jets to not talk to the media, as he was talking to the media.
But the Jets only need 1 more loss before their distant playoff dreams become nonexistent, and then the media won’t even want to talk to them.
Smart man. Way too smart to be a jet if you ask me.
Revis himself never shuts up, can never stop talking about holding out, and now he wants the Jets to shut up?
Overrated!
And somehow the Jets are a news topic again….
Revis should follow his own advice
Revis is correct. Good advice.
But, as John Donne said: “No man is an island. . . “
Finally..
+1 Revis.
And +1 more for irony, since you put this message out through the media.
Revis might be the only championship-caliber guy on that team right now. They should listen to him.
Good advice but too bad it will never happen. Ole Rex brought in way to many loud mouth, me first players who have taken on the personality or their loud mouth coach.
“Shut up and play” can never work in New York. The best you can hope for is “Win, then talk”.
“Quit talking crazy to the media, especially involving your teammates,” Revis said, as he talked crazily to the media about his teammates.
Agree with u revis
Rex sorry ur time is up. U suck on offensive n def ur just ok
Ur not a head coach ur a def cord.
Tebow either start him or trade him. Who brings him to run what 50 plays at most
Can’t trade u revis not yet n Holmes why are u a dick with talent geez
Best advice from the only player that should be giving it on this team
Yea, they all should just shut up including you Revis!
This guy needs a new team. He’s too smart to be a Jet.
Finally… a JET player that “GETS IT”
This from the guy that yapped last year and lit a fire under Tebow and Cruz.
Go figure that Revis is the only one on the team that seems to get it.
But they won’t win out. And Rex and company will be donezo. Thank god.
Smart man. It amazes me when players don’t realize that these media guys aren’t their friends. They’re out to write stories – that’s their job.
Specifically for the Jets – if a player says nice things about Tebow as a person before criticizing his ability as a QB, the player might THINK he’s being fair to Tebow, but he has to realize that the reporter will only print the “juicy stuff.”
If you’re a reporter with limited space in a column, and you have a choice of printing, “I think Tebow is a great teammate” versus “I don’t think Tebow can throw,” you’re choosing the second (controversial) statement 10 times out of 10.
With the Jets struggling right now, no reporter would ever try to angle a story towards painting the Jets in a positive light. Nobody on the team would gain anything by talking to the press, so I really hope the team takes Revis’ advice and just shuts up and plays football.
Isn’t he breaking his own rule? Hey Revis, your turn to SHUT UP!
kinda sounds like Revis wouldn’t mind playing for a winner up north in N.E. Whens his contract up?
The Jets haven’t shut up in over a year. Players, coaches and management included.
This team needs a minor overhaul and a fresh start with some players and coaches shown the door.
Rex, Gruden is going to need some good assistants next season in Cleveland. You might want to give him a call now.
Ladies and Gentlemen! Allow me to introduce our new PFT’s Most Commented article!
I hope they lose to the Cards Sunday, so we can put a fork in “em and stop having to talk about the Jets “playoff bid” At this point, the only people who want the Jets to win are their hardest, hard-core fans. Everyone else wants them to go down in flames with Rex yelling something stupid out the window and the other players trashing the guy on the team who never plays—–yeah, that would be Tim.
Superbowl bound Jets… where they’ll play the Eagles for all the marbles.
Over/under on Revis being anywhere near sane?
Great advice from the best CB in the NFL. I hope Rex Ryan listens also. The Jets have not recovered from several bad moves by their GM; allowing three very good WR’s to sign with other teams and then bringing in a much older Plaxico Burress right out of prison. Moreover Tomlison got old and the running game suffered. They just do not have the same personnel that allowed them to play twice for the AFC Championship.
Ha! Revis says players should stop talking about each other yet that is just what he is doing as he calls them out. Revis take your own advice and just shut up.
Finally.
As a JETS fan I have an advice for Revis…Do yourself a favor and leave that team, go as far as you can, you’re to good to be playing with those clowns!
The Jets D has really suffered without Revis. Their whole scheme was based on loading the box to stop the run and get pressure via uncoventional blitzes.
It will be interesting to see if the Jets take a gamble and give him a contract extension following major knee surgery or risk allowing him to go free the following year because of that no franchise-tag clause.
Anyway, just because of how dysfunctional that organisation is, it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t respect great talents like Revis.
This Redskins fan knows a thing or two about how painful it is to witness the product of a dysfunctional organisation.
From an ESPN article in September:
“According to ESPN Stats and Information, the Jets’ opponent completion percentage goes up from 54.1 to 62.5 the past two seasons when Revis is not on the field. The Jets also have allowed five touchdowns and recorded zero interceptions without Revis in that span. With Revis on the field the past two years, the Jets have 23 interceptions and allowed 15 passing touchdowns.”
I am sure the numbers look far worse now.
Good advice for Rex too!
Why, when female broadcasters stand in front of the camera, they have papers in their hands and the men don’t?
Thank God I’m a Steelers fan..
“run the table?” Thanks for the morning laugh Mike.
I bet revis is behind all the anonymous quotes! He’s all goofed up on pain pills, just stop it revis
This is the first time I can remember an intelligent remark by a Jet. What is the world coming to.
Revis is correct.
This should start from the top.
Johnson and that bag of wind Rex, should follow the advice.
It gets tiring reading about this circus, so just scan the headlines
good luck with that! great advice for the team AND the coach, but it’s two years too late.
Playoffs? PLAYOFFS? Try winning a damn game.
For once I agree with something uttered by a Jet player/coach.
They all LOVED to play for Rex because he lest players speak. No muzzle from the H/C.
No consequences.
Coach not only condones, but approves this behavior
Ya! And it starts with the coach. Just shut the F up and do your job.
And to whom are you giving this brilliant advice Darrelle? YOU are the one in the locker room, tell them yourself!
They are 4-7! Why are they even being mentioned? They will NOT run the table!
Revis should tell Jet fans to shut-up too.
I repeat! They are 4-7! Why are they even being mentioned? They will NOT run the table!
Could be perceived as a shot at Rex. If Ryan loses Revis its all over. More damage control for the Jets to do instead of just playing whoever they play today. Barnum and Bailey would be proud.
Revis, as everyone who follows football is aware, is:
(1) the best corner in the game in this era;
(2) a very wise and respected player; and
(3) on I.R. for the year.
Unfortunately for the Jets — Revis is not emblematic of most of the other Jets. The majority of Jets are the polar opposite — far from the best at their respective positions, unwise to an extreme – and not on I.R.
Thank you Captain Obvious. Jets fans should pray they don’t make the playoffs, it will delay the overall housecleaning this team needs to become competitive again. Starting at the HC, GM and QB positions.
They should only be allowed to talk when they win. With a 4-7 record that just about cuts the talking down by half of what we would have to hear already!!!
Revis, the greatest cornerback ever, is also an enlightened sage.
Revis’s next statement will be he may hold out since he deserves a new one after his contribution this season.
usually id talk about the irony of calling out your whole team through the media by telling your players not to call out your teammates through the media BUT this is different for 2 reasons..
1) hes Revis the best player on that god aweful team, and he never opens his mouth, ever. so when he decided to do so, people should listen.
and 2) im sure hes sitting at home hes getting the fan perspective on what the jets team character looks like not being inside that locker room and doesnt like what the circus looks like.
hes right, someone needed to say it. but ill be damned if the jets circus isnt the most entertaining thing ever, and how the jets fans handle it is the best..there like cowboys blah blah blah blah until they lose then its complete silence like they were never there…
Ironic…this time the guy telling the Jets to shut up is of course…another Jet. Hilarious!
Hey Mrcogburn….. Broadway Joe might have ran his mouth but he also mbrought the Jets their only super bowl
Smartest guy on the team
