Signs pointing to Chiefs playing as scheduled

AP

The Panthers are on their way to Kansas City as we type, and indications are tomorrow’s game against the Chiefs will go on as planned, after this morning’s murder-suicide involving Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher.

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that the “NFL has full plans to play Chiefs game tomorrow. No changes for right now. See how it unfolds.”

That’s well short of an official declaration, but it seems to be pointing in that didrection now.

Yahoo’s Jeff Passan, a national baseball writer, quotes Kansas City mayor Sly James as saying the Chiefs “think there should be a game tomorrow.”

While it’s hard to imagine the Chiefs organization being able to focus right now, it should be their call whether to move forward, tomorrow or whenever.

Exactly. This should not be a league decision but a decision made by those affected by it. The game has no playoff implications so why not give them the flexibility to play it Monday or Tuesday rather then the league insisting a game be played at a crime scene 24 hours later.

  2. Also if the NFL really wanted to they could flex the game to Monday Night.

I’m sure the NFL didn’t have a situation like this in mind when the flex idea was implemented. This would not impact either team as far as traveling goes either because KC plays CLE next week and we got the Falcons at home.

  3. I can’t imagine how the players and coaches could go out and give it their all. They need some time off for reflecting. Thoughts and Prayers go out to the families and the Chiefs O.

  4. Let’s not forget about condolences and prayers to the family of the girlfriend and the small child.

  5. as a panthers fan i agree it is in the best interest to postpone this game. there are some things that are just bigger then football and this happens to be one of them. Tuesday night is the logical thing to do here

  6. I agree with the person up top who mentioned common sense prevailing.

Seriously, postpone this game. I understand it can have the effect of putting even more attention on it, but I think for the staff involved, they need some time to breathe and even decide how they want to handle it. Whether it’s the league or the team’s call, I think they should definitely postpone this thing. If you can’t postpone a game for the loss of human life, what WILL you postpone it for?

  7. Dear Lord, I cannot imagine what Scott Pioli and Romeo Crennel are going through right now, having witnissed this horror before their very eyes.

Sad, sad incident all the way around.
