The ball LANDED past the line of scrimmage, that’s the “rule.” Which is funny because I remember a game last yr when an official said a play wasn’t an IG because while the ball didn’t reach the los, it was “in the area” of the los. They don’t even know the rules themselves. The los extends past the field of play. Therefore, bad call. But not as bad as the decision to full sprint backwards 20 yds to throw it away. You bench conservative for daring, this happens.

The intentional grounding rule states that when the quarterback is out of the pocket, it is not intentional grounding if he throws a forward pass that lands at or beyond the line of scrimmage, including when the ball lands out of bounds over the sideline.

This ball was snapped from the 17-yard line and Kaepenick’s pass landed out of bounds somewhere near the 20. This should not have been a safety.

OMG! There were bad calls on both sides. How about the roughing the pass call in Robert Quinn? Show me where he hit the QB at all. He had the RT between he and the QB. The hit on Sam B. was the correct call. He! How about that 2nd CB. J.J. He is turning out to be the steal of the draft. Show me a rookie CB that’s playing better, or who has had a bigger impact.

Why are guys even arguing about the safety call. If you watched the game on Fox, you must have seen the network’s own former official’s take – he reviewed it and said the call was wrong. Period. As far as Kaepernick is concerned, he redeemed himself for his mistake with that 50 yard run and a perfectly thrown floater in the endzone that Delanie Walker somehow failed to catch. Walker HAS to make that catch – it couldn’t have been thrown better. Throw in a missed field goal to win the game FOR THE SECOND RAMS GAME IN A ROW and Rams win. Having said that, all props to the Rams. Their defense played real rough and they deserve the win. Niners need to win out or at least go 3-1 for their last four games and it’s all good.

As a huuuuge 49ers fan This is what I have to say:
Kaepernick has the skills to be a great quarterback. He has all the talent in the world. BUT. and this is a big BUT. He lacks experience and leadership and toughness. The kid looked like he was going to cry after he turned the ball over. I want the tough 2 dollar steak alex smith back. To me its just moronic to bench a quarterback who is doing as good as any quarterback in the league. It makes no sense. This is the year that the niners can win the superbowl. So why set themselves back with a 2nd year quarterback that is making rookie mistakes. Stop messing with our season harbs.

Looked like the ball passes the line of scrimmage.
Akers shoulld have maade field goals.
Ginn should have fell on the ball.
Niners should have did what the patriots did in england.
Harbaugh is right with kaep. Look at how bad smith played against the vikings, giants and rams last year and this year. Give kaep a shot. Smith is too conservative and boring. Kaep is more entertaining, can do more and has more potential.

This game is on the coaching and playcalling. The pitch play near the endzone was a bad call. Running the ball before the missed field goal was also a bad call. If you truly believe in Kaep then let him throw the ball and get us either closer so it is a closer kick or keep driving for the TD. Kaep can throw now Harbaugh quit playing it so safe.

You’re blaming Akers, a guy who put 7 points on the board (and missed one 51 yarder in OT)?

Why not blame the clown that handed the Rams 8 points?

8 points > 3 points.

Kaep lost the game. He only sustained a couple drives, and stalled every time in the redzone. The only offensive score was on a drive that Gore dominated.

Ummmm yeah. On TV they played it in slowmo from a side angle, he definitely passed the LOS with that throw. By about 2 yards. Horribly officiated game for both teams TBH.

Good game by both defenses rams deserved to win this game because our offense looked like crap he should have never dropped back into the endzone in the first place. We lost because we was out coached and Colin is to inexperienced to check down plays when rams had 9 players in the box. To much mistakes and dropped opportunities. We need to start quicker on the gas pedal and stop letting off in the 3rd quarter like we always do play the opponent not the clock. Loss is a loss deal with it learn from it and get back to work. #loyalfansdeserve6

All good! defense gave up 6 points. Refs and kaep handed 8 to them. Nice job of rams d for keeping kaep guessing but he still put them in position to win..the same way they had Ws all of last season.. Akers injury is sorta holding the team back.

Today the Niners lost any chance at a home game in the playoffs. Today harbaugh lost the locker room. Today Kaepernick proved he’s not ready.

Don’t give a crap about the bad call. Kaepernick had no reason to run 20 yds back from scrimmage. You run forward or drop and accept the sack. Rookie mistake. That soft toss OVER Ginn’s head lost us the game – nothing else. He handed them the ball on the 1 yd line. Rookie mistake.

Haters are going to hate, but Alex Smith would have won that game. If you don’t believe that you don’t know football.

This niner fan is not a sore loser. They lost and deserved to lose. This was not at all the reason they lost. There are bigger issues. This is just pointing out that the call was incorrect. Also incorrect is the NFL rule about not being able to challenge it. It was a scoring play like this article states.

Now that is not the reason the 49ers lost. Silly mistakes and bad play calling did more than that call did.

Pereira is wrong 40% of the time. Citing him doesn’t make the call any less correct.

If you look at the replay you can clearly see it did cross the LOS. Kenny, Moose and Goose also agreed. If you have a beef with Pereira than that is your issue. It was one of many bad calls every weekend and that is a part of the game. But not even close to being the reason the 49ers lost. Be objective. Find the video and play it.

lots of arrogance from someone who apparently doesnt know the rules. this particular call was wrong and the explanation as to why has already been given. but since you are still hard headed over this…the ball only has to reach the LOS. it does not have to do so inside the boundaries. he could throw it in row 7 parallel to the first down marker and it would not be intentional grounding. the call was wrong, as are you.

An “L” is an “L”, and it will stay an “L”, but as Mike Pereria said during the game, when calling intentional grounding, the LOS extends out-of-bounds and the ball went about two yards past the LOS . . . out-of-bounds. But whatever . . . good win for the Rams.
