Sherman appeal hearing set for December 14

AP

As we reported last night, Seahawks starting cornerbacks Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner are expected to play in Week 14, despite facing four-game suspensions for amphetamines.

For Sherman, he’ll definitely be available on Sunday against the Cardinals.  Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Sherman’s appeal hearing will be conducted on Friday, December 14.

It could mean that Sherman will be available for Seattle’s Week 15 game against the Bills, if a ruling is reached fairly quickly after the hearing.

There’s no date set yet for Browner’s hearing.  It’s unlikely that Browner’s hearing would occur this week, given that Sherman will be able to play.

  1. It would be pretty funny if the Seahawks drop the next two games and then he has to sit out the next 4.

  2. 1st the NFL tosses this BS at the Seahawks, then yesterday Mike Carey and his crew do everything they can to help the Bears win. I hope Sherman just goes straight to court and skips the NFL kangaroo court.

  3. A lot of talk here in Hawkland about how they should handle the timing.

After Sunday’s win over the Bears, I believe they should start serving this week against the Cards. If they’d lost to Chicago I’d feel different. Seattle has 4 winable games (3 at home) left on the sched (including Cards and Lambs at home). Not that they have a playoff spot booked, but they should win at least 2 of the 4 without the 2 corners.

If they don’t start to sit now they’ll be unavailable for any potential playoff game.

  4. Sherman should go into the appeal hearing, whenever it is, and just act like the most distracted human being alive.

It probably won’t help much but hey have some fun. Life’s short.

  5. Just get it over with. No reason to miss the playoffs. What’s their shot at actually winning, anyways? Only reason to delay at this point is if you can get it to last until the end of the season. Are there any realistic chances of that either?

  6. @osiris33, totally agree about Mike Carey and his crew doing everything they could to help the Bears win. I was so pissed before the first quarter was even over. Just goes to show how much the nfl wants their ‘name’ teams to win. I’d rather see both Sherman and Browner, ‘If’ they are found guilty, serve their time the first 4 games of 13′

  7. Shame those refs trying to help the Bears win couldn’t help tackle Wilson on those last two Seattle drives.

  8. all the people that hate sherman and say he’s a ‘trash talker’ (guy changed his twitter name to something light hearted and non offensive, prior to that simply resonded to Brady’s trash talking) certainly sound like a lot of jealous fans their team didn’t find a top-tier CB in the 5th round of the draft.

  9. This is what I don’t get. People are still talking about the one game back versus the Packers. So many games I have seen regular officials go above and beyond to help the bigger market teams win. Pats/Bills, Steelers/Chiefs and countless others. That fumble on Lynch was debatable, but the ref blowing the whistle signalling Bears ball on PR muff and the ball was still live, reverse the Edwards TD without clear evidence and our special teams captain thrown to the ground by face mask and called for illegal block are blatant blown calls. Watch the Irvin illegal hands to face penalty when u can see o-lineman with a hand in his face giving Bears 1st down on a 3rd and long on their 5 yard line. Where is the uproar about this from sites ESPN, Profootballtalk and its happened as season?

  10. Since Pete Carroll has coached Seattle, depth has always stepped up and played well on the defensive side of the ball when called upon. Sherman himself wasn’t a starter until Walter Thurmond got injured. I expect Thurmond, Lane, and Maxwell to step in and play big. Losing these guys won’t hurt Seattle’s defense that much.

  11. OK, so if I understand this correctly, Sherman and Browner will appeal, lose (has anyone ever won?), and then have to sit out the play-offs. That just seems kinda dumb.

  12. Yeah cause I’m sure no other teams have players who’ve been busted for illegal substances? Brian Cushing? Shawn Merriman? Joe Haden? Aqib Talib? Kevin Williams? Santonio Holmes?

  13. Osiris. I don’t think Carey had anything to do with it… A few lucky bounces? Yes. Sherman did everything in his power to let the bears win. The Real Optimis Prime said they need to start calling Sherman Butane. The clown got TORCHED by Marshall all day.

The Chiefs just won their 2nd game yesterday and the Bills their 5th… ??
If they’re supposed to be getting help by the officials to get wins, perhaps the uproar should be about how poorly those officials are doing this.

Outside of the hail mary the only catch made on Sherman was the one where Cutler threw the ball up in the air with his eyes closed. Tillman/Jennings both got exposed by Rice/Tate nearly 100 yards each and a TD. Even Edwards had a TD but Mike Carey took it away, wasn’t exactly a lucky bounce. Soldier Field is like a home game for the Hawks the last few years.

If they didn’t help earlier that last drive wouldn’t have been necessary.
