Braylon Edwards apologizes for saying Jets are run by “idiots”

Seahawks Camp Football AP

Hours after Seahawks receiver Braylon Edwards ‏said the Jets are run by “idiots,” he changed his tune.

Edwards, who wrote on Twitter early Tuesday morning that people shouldn’t get on Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez and should instead blame the “idiots calling the shots,” went back to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon and wrote that he wished he hadn’t said that.

“I would like to apologize to the Jets family and my fans for my emotional outburst. Mark is a friend and former teammate, who I wholeheartedly support. Nonetheless, I have disrespected and insulted an administration that I have the utmost respect for,” Edwards wrote.

At a time when Sanchez is being ripped by just about everyone, Edwards is one of his few remaining supporters. But regarding the other portion of Edwards’ statement, one wonders why, if Edwards genuinely had “the utmost respect” for Jets coach Rex Ryan, General Manager Mike Tanenbaum and owner Woody Johnson, he called them idiots in the first place.

Don’t be an idiot, Braylon. Your original comments are correct.

Because he realizes that with only 8 catches this season, he’ll be looking for a new employer again next season, and he’ll take whatever offer he gets.

Seriously though…the Jets ARE run by idiots. Nothing wrong with telling the truth.

if Edwards genuinely had “the utmost respect” for Jets coach Rex Ryan, General Manager Mike Tanenbaum and owner Woody Johnson, he called them idiots in the first place.

    Because that’s what they are?

one wonders why… he called them idiots in the first place.

    Because they are.

Come on you know the answer to this question. It’s the PR age, I’m sure Edwards agent or a Seahawks publicist made the suggestion to change it.

  6. thereisalwaysnextyear says: Dec 4, 2012 5:21 PM

Oh come one. He’s not sorry. His team told him he can’t talk that way and made him apologize. Sad in the NFL that no one seems to be able to speak the truth, particularly coaches. They are idiots and it doesn’t matter no one can say so out loud (w/o apologizing), everyone knows the truth.

  7. thestrategyexpert says: Dec 4, 2012 5:22 PM

Can somebody ask Braylon to please define the word “utmost”, and to also name what groups he has the highest forms of respect for and what word choice he would use to describe his respect for them? That’s where the story is.

  8. kingbeason52 says: Dec 4, 2012 5:24 PM

    Random timing..

  9. ampats says: Dec 4, 2012 5:25 PM

So Edwards apologized to the Jets family and my fans ?

Who exactly are Braylon Edwards fans that are not named Edwards?

  10. offthelows says: Dec 4, 2012 5:25 PM

He may have been told by his current team since you’re a old, backup player, stay out of trouble and apologize, or you’ll be cut.

  11. AlohaMrHand says: Dec 4, 2012 5:25 PM

It’s the jets that need to be apologizing

  12. peytonsneck18 says: Dec 4, 2012 5:26 PM

    well….shoes fits…….

  13. brownsclown says: Dec 4, 2012 5:27 PM

    Why should he apologize?
First, what he said is true.
Second, Who better to identify an idiot than an idiot?

  14. bcfalcon says: Dec 4, 2012 5:28 PM

Don’t apologize Braylon, it’s not your fault that the jets are a dysfunctional organization!

  15. ttommytom says: Dec 4, 2012 5:29 PM

Rex is a really good D coordinator .
Tannenbaum is a really good Cap guy.
Woody inherited a mini empire and the band aid world has been good to him.

They should all get back to what they are good at.

Braylon is good at getting open. Too bad that’s not a job because one needs to catch the ball too…

  16. broncobrewer says: Dec 4, 2012 5:32 PM

He’s right they are idiots. Don’t take it back Braylon.

  17. vicksprman says: Dec 4, 2012 5:33 PM

Could it be he talked to his good buddy Sanchez who told him to tone it down because he still has to work in the building?

  18. pacificamjr says: Dec 4, 2012 5:33 PM

more “emotional outburst” from this dummy… will he ever learn? I doubt it. He’s done after this year…

  19. truthfactory says: Dec 4, 2012 5:35 PM

Sanchez is terrible, and the Jets are also run by idiots. The two concepts are not mutually exclusive…

  20. thefiesty1 says: Dec 4, 2012 5:37 PM

He’s right. Say what you mean and mean what you say.

  21. essentialsausage says: Dec 4, 2012 5:37 PM

He meant to say that the Jets are run by “total morons”.

  22. pizzon says: Dec 4, 2012 5:39 PM

why should the guy apologize its actually a true statement, anyone who signs Tim Tebow and then says he will actually help a team is an idiot.

  23. rdrs68 says: Dec 4, 2012 6:09 PM

Sounds like an apology from someone who got his butt chewed (for speaking the truth)

    the league perhaps?

  24. seahawks4alltime says: Dec 4, 2012 6:15 PM

Braylon Edwards may only have 8 receptions this year, but he actually has been targeted as much as some might think. And there is also the TD taken away by the refs in Chicago on Sunday.

  25. iluvboobs says: Dec 4, 2012 6:17 PM

Braylon, don’t worry it is completel understandable. I for one often call “administrations that I have the utmost respect for” idiots all the time.

  26. harrisonhits2 says: Dec 4, 2012 6:20 PM

Shouldn’t have to apologize for being right.

  27. orivar says: Dec 4, 2012 6:43 PM

Nobody was saying anything when they were going to the two AFC Championships. This league and it’s moronic fans love to over blow everything. They had two good years, and an average and now bad one. That’s already better than half the teams in the league. Out of 32 teams only one wins the Superbowl anyways.

Slow down, regroup, cut the bad, repeat success. All the Jets have to do. The rest is just NY Media (even though its an NJ team) who are mainly all idiots to begin with riding everything they can for idiot fans. By the way, this seems something more like from Braylon finally having the opportunity to talk trash about the team that dumped him even though that one touchdown aside he’s been useless again.

    Not a Jets fan either.

  30. csilojohnson says: Dec 4, 2012 6:58 PM

Now not only are you an idiot Edwards. You are a gutless idiot.

  31. hehateme2 says: Dec 4, 2012 7:13 PM

The 2 fluke AFC showing is old stale news. Time to move on to reality of that the jests are bottom feeders. Always have been.

  32. sean6886 says: Dec 4, 2012 7:30 PM

He’s speaking the truth but I hope the Jets still pick him up.

  33. tbd3 says: Dec 4, 2012 7:41 PM

    Why?

  34. bengalskuta82 says: Dec 4, 2012 8:06 PM

Hahaha..this guy is interesting..well, most NFL players aren’t that bright..shouldn’t be suprised about stuff like this coming from them

  35. dallascowboysdishingthereal says: Dec 4, 2012 8:40 PM

Can’t take back a comment like that one. You were speaking from your heart when you blew up the management and speaking from your brain when you apologized.

  36. 69finfan says: Dec 4, 2012 8:42 PM

    Braylon is “intellectually challenged”

  37. skilaufenhase says: Dec 4, 2012 9:50 PM

Niners fan here, and I always liked Braylon. I think had it not been for injuries he would have stuck here. He’s a good dude and talks the truth. Everyone knows hes paying for like 28 kids to go to college right? In Cleveland where he started out.

He’s got the benefit of the doubt with me, especially since the Jets ARE idiots.

  38. robertjamis says: Dec 4, 2012 10:01 PM

Rex is a great coach, who’s had more success in the first four seasons he’s coached than Belichick.

Funny how weeks ago Braylon was saying Russell Wilson was so much better than Sanchez. Which one is it dude?

  39. jetfanfolife says: Dec 5, 2012 8:49 AM

Now that you don’t have a job…of course you’ll take back that statement.

No values and convictions makes for a terrible player!

  40. bestdigitalmarketingschoolsumd says: Dec 5, 2012 1:20 PM

Apology is warranted but it is true!
