Green Bay Packers defensive back Charles Woodson has missed the last five games due to a broken collarbone suffered against the St. Louis Rams in October.

Now Woodson is closing in on his return to the field.

According to Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Woodson may be ready in time for the Packers game against the Chicago Bears on Dec. 16. That being said, head coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that Woodson still has not been cleared to play.

“If you ask Charles, he’s probably pushing to play this week,” McCarthy said. “There’s some more testing that you have to do to make sure he’s cleared. He has not been cleared yet.”

The Packers have managed to get by with youth in the secondary in Woodson’s absence, but would greatly appreciate his return to the lineup. Woodson can play several positions on the field with the Packers and has a knack for being around the football. For the season, Woodson has 38 tackles, an interception and five passes defensed in seven games for Green Bay.
