The Giants will be turning back to David Diehl at right tackle.
Sean Locklear suffered a gruesome looking knee injury during Monday night’s loss to the Redskins and coach Tom Coughlin said Tuesday that it was a serious one that will require surgery. Coughlin didn’t delve into specifics of what happened to Locklear’s knee, although he did more or less confirm that Locklear is destined for injured reserve.
“I’m sure that will take place at some point in time here this week. Probably sooner than later, but why don’t you just wait until that happens. I’m sure you have an idea that will happen,” Coughlin said during a conference call. “Look, we feel badly for Sean. Here’s a guy that’s come in here not knowing our system and has played well for us. He’s been there when we needed him. He’s done a heck of a job and we all feel bad about this taking place at that point in time last night and it is a serious injury and we’re very upset about that. I’m trying to be aware of that and we’ll release all that information at the appropriate time.”
Locklear stepped into the lineup when Diehl hurt his knee earlier in the season and gave the team stronger work than Diehl had been turning in. The team returned Diehl to the lineup once he was fully healed, but Locklear was back in the starting lineup on Monday. He’ll be a free agent after the season, although the state of his knee will likely have much to say about what his future holds.
