Vikings put Percy Harvin on injured reserve, ending his season

Percy Harvin is done for the season.

The Vikings confirmed on Wednesday evening that Harvin had been placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury.

That news comes just hours after Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said it was hard to say whether Harvin would play this season. But now it’s official: Harvin is out through the rest of the year and, if the Vikings make it, the postseason as well.

Harvin got off to a great start this year, with 60 catches in the season’s first eight weeks, plus a 35.9-yard kickoff return average, both a kickoff return touchdown and a rushing touchdown. But he got hurt in Week Nine and hasn’t been back on the field since. And now he won’t be back on the field in a game until the 2013 preseason.

  1. Ouch. Had him on both fantasy teams and loved it. Great player and fun to watch alongside AP. going to miss him and wish a full recovery so he can tear it up next year.

  2. I would get it over with and ask for a trade from the dysfunctional vikings. He and A.P. deserve better. I wouldn’t blame him a bit. Stick a fork in ’em their done! we move on. I can see why the vikings are a joke. 51-52 years? and squat. I can admit it.

  3. Grade 3 ankle spains aren’t to be messed with. He is one of the most explosive players in the league. I’d hate to see him hampered by a career of ankle issues.

  4. That stinks. Harvin is a dynamic talent and makes the Vikings offense better just by being on the field. It will be 8 or 9 man fronts from here forward for Peterson. Ponder cant seem to get it down the field for more than 15 yards at a time and Harvin was the perfect weapon for that.

  5. Get well my man, here’s to hoping that Ponder won’t be attempting to throw the rock to you next year when it counts!

  6. With this news coming down, why do Vikings fan need any kind of encouragement from players to get ‘super duper drunk’?

  7. so many viking haters here, just jealous cause we had harvin, and i am hoping he changes his mind we need him and ap from what I understand he still has one more year on his contract with us but he should be getting paid more than he does.

  8. well at least he didnt have migrains this year, mustve been that trip to colorado that helped with that

He can’t change his mind. The team ended his season.

  10. Well, hopefully Roethlisberger comes back. This means Mike Wallace is my #2 fantasy WR for the playoffs.

  11. He’s an asset the Vikes should work with but he should not have to be the old reliable. He’s proved his worth and paid the price. Get some frigg’n talent around him and make the offense something to be respected. Otherwise let Mr. Harvin go somewhere he can really make a difference.

  12. Won’t matter this week. The vikings will find a way to beat the bears at home. The redneck will destroy Webb, just like he did to their Guard. No Urlacher, Briggs, Jennings, and a banged up Tillman means disaster for them. Just another average defense without them.

  13. Percy and AD are 2 of the best in the NFL. You haters look like jealous school girls. Heal Percy, see you next season

  14. That is disheartening news to hear. Percy is one of the few highlight real players on the team. I’m glad they are doing the smart thing and shutting him down for the rest of the season. Get well, Percy.

Even with the constant 8-9 man fronts and no Harvin to take defenders away Adrian has been shredding defences. We won’t get to the playoffs but it would be nice to see Adrian Peterson have continued success and get to 2000 yards.

  15. Him and ap kill it together all they need is to draft a good solid receiver to go along with a decent def. this team has come along way since Favre SIGN HARVIN TO A LONG TERM CONTRACT!!!!!

  16. Ponder spent the whole week preparing for his proposal instead of for the Packers and the way he played showed it.

At least you’ve only been around since 1960. The Eagles don’t have that excuse lmao

LMAO jealous of the vikings? jealous of those zero rings? yeah im sure that is it

  19. This will definitely make him more affordable to resign. With the career year he was on his way to, he might have waited to hit free agency after next year. He should be more willing to take a good contract from the Vikings now. He’ll have to see a lot of improvement from Ponder, though. Or whoever the QB turns out to be.

  20. Sorry Vikings, not allowed to have both of your best players healthy at the same time. Really though, very unfortunate; I feel like Percy just can’t catch a break.

  21. Ponder is not Harvin’s problem!! This Vikings team needed a number one Reciver and still do! Look all Qb’s in this leauge have highs and lows and yet we forget that this is Ponders first full season!! Ponder can throw deep if he had a WR that would fight for the ball!!

  22. Hate to see Percy out, he always gave 100% and I hope the Vikings can keep him but as long as Frazier is married to Ponder both AP and Harvin are wasted talent.

No he cant throw deep. AP was wide open last week and he grossly under threw him.

  24. Where’s that Vikings fan who was claiming Greg Jennings didn’t want to come back and play for the Packers? Prepare for an offseason of Harvin whining with an eventual holdout to start the season – IF he’s still with the Vikings.

Maybe. But, I think a more important determining factor is whether Frazier and crew are still around. I don’t see Percy really wanting to play for these guys anymore. I thnk he understand that he doesn’t have much of a shelf-life because of the way he plays. He’s going to want to make a run sooner rather than later.
