Kevin Kolb isn’t completely healed

The Cardinals turned their offense over to John Skelton again this week, leaving Ryan Lindley to hold a clipboard and Kevin Kolb to keep healing from the broken ribs he suffered in Week Six.

Kolb’s been practicing in a limited fashion, but he’s still not ready to kick things up to a higher notch. It’s not because he doesn’t want to be playing or because he’s had a setback in his recovery, it’s that he hasn’t finished healing from the initial injury.

“A lot of the (slow recovery) goes back to the injury itself. The way that my ribs are broken, they aren’t completely healed,” Kolb said, via Darren Urban of the team’s website. “Whenever the cartilage broke, (the ribs) are laying underneath my sternum. That’s how they are trying to heal, rather than healing where it’s butted up straight against it like a normal cracked rib, flush with each other, mine are laid underneath there. That’s what extends the process.”

Kolb still maintains he’ll return this season, but he and the Cardinals are running out of time. Given the performances of all three quarterbacks, we’ve got little doubt that Kolb would be the starter if there was any way he’d be on the field.
