Jonathan Stewart “very doubtful” for Panthers

Jonathan Stewart AP

If the 3-9 Panthers are going to prove that they’re better than the 11-1 Falcons, they’ll be doing it short-handed.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera said Friday that running back Jonathan Stewart was “very doubtful,” adding a modifier to what’s on the injury report.

The Panthers also have five players listed as questionable, including four starters: Linebacker James Anderson (back), safety Charles Godfrey (back), defensive tackle Dwan Edwards (wrist) and wide receiver Brandon LaFell (toe).

Of the group, only Godfrey practiced at all Friday.

Considering the Panthers have recently put defensive tackle Ron Edwards and safety Sherrod Martin on IR, being so thin on defense means the Falcons might have a better shot at pulling the upset.

Interesting. A Falcons win would be an upset while they are favored by 3.5. That’s right, I forgot, the Panthers are the best 3-9 team in the NFL.
