True, but how many coaches can say they’ve never made it past the AFC Championship game after four years with with an All-Star quarterback in Rivers, one of the greatest halfbacks of all time in Tomlinson and a Hall of Fame tight end in Gates, all in their prime.

Also, confused about the wording of the original article: “Thursday’s report that the Chargers will fire head coach Norv Turner at the end of the season hasn’t affected his team’s preparation for Sunday’s game against the Steelers, Turner says.”

There have been reports that Norv will be fired at the end of every season since about 1996, so the question is whether he’s lying, and the reports really do affect his preparation, or whether the slop he puts out on the field every Sunday really is his true, non-compromised product?

Here’s what I predict the Chargers will do:

They will keep Turner through the end of the season. Then they will flirt with firing him. Then they will announce that he will keep his job.

Then, in February, after all the best head coach candidates have secured new jobs, they will fire Turner and have few options, and have to settle for second tier candidates

Finally, they will hire Marty Schottenheimer as Head Coach.

I wish all this talk and speculation about Norv Turner and A.J. Smith waited until AFTER the Steelers game. Last thing we need is extra motivation for a team we’re, once again, expected to beat.

The only thing that surprises me is that this didn’t happen sooner. It would take a guy like Gruden (not a burned out guy like Reid) to get Rivers career back on track and get this team turned around.

“Norv” is of course the most incompetent HC since Rich Kotite. But he’s a master politician, so now he’s smoothly playing the martyr-card.

I’m sure that some team out there will be foolish enough to hire “Norv” as HC or OC in 2013.

Norv Turner was never the right Head Coach for this team. He was the right Offensive Coordinator; no question. The right coach got bounced by the wrong GM who got lucky because the owner made the wrong decision to let the right guy go.

And how many of the 53 guys on the roster were there at 5:30? That’s key to know. Big difference if it is 2 or 53. Since he didn’t give full details it sounds to me like it must be an embarrassingly low amount. And who cares what time they get in, how long did they work? Just because they are on a different time schedule than maybe people with other jobs doesn’t mean they are coming in early for an impressive level of eagerness to work.

It’s all weak posturing with no clear substance, thus it sounds like San Diego has an effort and commitment problem. At least I have not basis to assume otherwise. And the bottom line is your team is 4-8 regardless of the answers to my curiosities, and that’s all that matters, maybe you didn’t prepare in the past properly so hopefully the Chargers ownership considers why that was when finding a new coach and GM. They need somebody who knows how to get the job done.

Turner is a much nicer guy than Rex Ryan but he seems almost as delusional.

Sorry, 4-8 is not an “outstanding job” by any of you, coaches, players or anyone else. No doubt when you’re 4-12 and out of work you’ll still be saying what a wonderful job everyone did this year.

The Raiders don’t control their own destiny. The Chiefs and Jags will need to step up and win a couple of games. Even if Oakland does get #1, there are no franchise QBs that will entice another club to trade up for the pick and give the Raiders a draft boon, which is what they need above all else.
