Report: Darnell Dockett fined six figures by Cardinals for incident with Kerry Rhodes

Frank Gore, William Gay, Darnell Dockett, Paris Lenon AP

Cardinals defensive end Darnell Dockett apologized to safety Kerry Rhodes for an argument during last week’s loss to the Jets, but it doesn’t seem as if the team is willing to forgive and forget.

Mike Jurecki of XTRA 910 reports that he’s been told that the Cardinals will fine Dockett six figures for the altercation. Dockett allegedly spit at Rhodes as they argued about the team’s plan to let the Jets score near the end of the 7-6 loss.

That should not be confused by the spit takes done by people watching Jets games when the Jets actually score. As far as we know, that is not a fineable offense.

Rhodes denied that Dockett spit and Dockett didn’t address it when he acknowledged the incident earlier this week, but the size of that fine certainly suggests that something untoward happened on the field in New Jersey.

Jurecki also reports that Dockett could have a limited role against the Seahawks this weekend. That’s a lot of fallout from a little spittle, something that might make other Cardinals think twice before hocking a loogie in the direction of one of their teammates should another disagreement come to the surface in Sunday’s game.

$100000+ for spitting? Darnell should have just swallowed.

    This is ridiculous.

Hahaha !! What a moron ! Great timing Dockett , I guess you’ll miss your chance at leaning on Wilson’s throat as your team gets their asses kicked this Sunday . Couldn’t happen to a bigger jerk ..

I’m a Cards fan, and I like this. Dockett is a great player, but sptting on a team mate? No way. Glad they hit him hard on it.

It’s far from ridiculous, it’s about time these overpaid punks get fined appropriate amounts for their appalling behavior and gross incompetency. The team is just proving that the league doesn’t charge enough for fines of other types of violations. And I don’t think they fined him for spitting at a teammate, I think they fined him for disobeying team orders and directives. Titus Young got a much more harsh punishment from the Lions for intentionally playing wrong according to instructions and they turned him into an outcast.

This guy only had to pay a six-figure fine and still gets to play ball. He’s lucky they value him so much as to not totally embarrass him and scare him right out of town.

Really, 100 grand for spitting ?

    Who’s watching GODell ?

Whomever it is, he/she deserves a 250 grand fine for not curbing his GODellness. The game is changing right before our eyes, and some of the nonsense needs to stop pronto like or before you know it, the teams will be fielding players like Liberace out there. The halftime show will feature players getting mani-pedi’s out there.

It won’t be too long before the team trainer’s are carry sanitary napkins instead of tape.

So Dockett got fined 6 figures for “allegedly” spitting on Rhodes, but the NFL didn’t fine Le’Ron McClain when he spit on Channing Crowder in 2010? The hypocrisy is strong with this one.

The fine isn’t about him spitting….it’s about a so-called team leader (check the payroll) refusing orders.
What’s next? Lindley calling his own plays in the red zone?

Team imposed fine, NOT league imposed. Try reading the story next time.

I think spitting is probably THE ultimate insult and deserves great punishment, but $100k+? Nah.

Not even I would wish a fine that large on someone if they ever dared spitting on me.

The beatdown I lay on them would be punishment enough.

How did those go from Rhodes saying nothing happened, to spitting, to now all of a sudden, hocking (isn’t it hawking?) a loogie?

Unfortunately the immutable laws of physics contradict the whole premise of your account.

  13. haterswelcomed says: Dec 7, 2012 6:34 PM

Well if there was EVER a time to spit on a teammate it would be after losing 7-6 to the Jets

  14. Xenu D. Alien says: Dec 7, 2012 9:19 PM

Rhodes should be thankful Dockett didn’t fart on him.
