Report: Suggs surrendered nine guns to authorities in November

Terrell Suggs AP

More details have emerged in connection with last month’s decision by law-enforcement to collect multiple firearms from Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs.

According to WBAL-TV, Suggs surrendered a .45-caliber pistol, a 9 mm pistol, a .454 Casull revolver, a Bushmaster rifle, two Defender 2000 rifles, and three shotguns.

The confiscation occurred as a result of a temporary protective order granted to Candace Williams, the mother of Suggs’ two children.  Per the report, the order arose from allegations that, in September 2012, Suggs entered Williams’ car, punched her in the neck, threw her out of the car, and then drove away while she tried to get her purse and phone — all in the presence of their children.  She claims she was dragged “at a high rate of speed” and that she had road rash on her legs and feet for multiple weeks.

Suggs issued the following statement on Friday:  “My fiancee and I have two beautiful children together whom we both love and care for tremendously.  The personal issues that the two of us have faced recently have been addressed in a responsible and adult manner and have been resolved.  I am certain that we will get through this matter and move forward as a happy family.”

But the “happy family” will be divided.  According to Williams’ lawyer, the couple will maintain separate residences, Williams will have custody of the children, and Suggs will have liberal visitation rights.  The agreement is expected to be finalized next week.

It’s unclear when or if Suggs will be getting his arsenal back.  Though he has every right to own the guns, here’s hoping he does so responsibly.

He doesn’t need guns he normally just pours bleach on her.

Sizzle’s having a tough time on and off the field. Best way to get over it is to smack around RG3 on Sunday!!!

he probably needs the big guns to make up for how ugly he is…

  3. jaltreality says: Dec 7, 2012 6:37 PM

I’m not condoning what is alleged to have happened to his wife if it actually happened (though, as a fellow attorney, Mr. Florio, you should know that baseless or exaggerated allegations are very common).

But, what does his ownership of guns have to do with anything? I see no evidence that he owned them illegally, used them irresponsibly, hell, that he even stored them illogically.

Instead, there was a temporary protective order (which, as judge’s tend to err on the side of caution in such matters, are doled out easily), and he complied with said order. TPOs usually have such sweeping and broad requirements.

I’m sure this will be censored, as many of my posts surprisingly are on this site. But gun ownership is fine, so long as it’s done in a responsible fashion. You seem to be using the tragedy that occurred in Kansas City as a way of making nefarious implications here.

It’s human nature to automatically jump to the woman’s side. But I have to remain skeptical due to the nature of her husband’s celebrity status.

    I ain’t sayin’ she’s a gold digger…

Then Suggs has to give up his firearms to the Dept. of PreCrime.

How’d that work out for Sean Taylor?

unnecessarily sensationalistic headline, but i guess it’s a way to grab attention…not to be and even-handed journalist.

here, again, it’s important not to confuse the two separate issues. the primary concern is domestic violence, not possession of guns. no where in the story did i read that he threatened her with a weapon. (‘roid rage? maybe!)

no doubt that there are too many irresponsible people carrying guns, athletes or not. i’m not necessarily a gun possession proponent or opponent. either path needs to be approached with reason and responsibility. hope Suggs gets help with anger management before he ends up wearing an orange jumpsuit.

“Just because you can own 9 guns doesn’t mean you need to…especially the assault rifles, not using them for hunting”

Assault rifles are illegal, have been for years, as a matter of fact if you want to get thrown out of a gun shop just ask if you can buy one.

You can however purchase guns that look like assault rifles and even make them function like assault rifles, but you would never be able to sell it, or even use it in public because, again you are looking at serious time in a federal prison.

Further, you can you hunt with and AR 15, why not, it is no different than going to the grocery store.

All that being said, taking guns from this guy might be a good idea.

What does need have to do with it? Mr. Suggs has a right to own weapons regardless of whether he hunts or not. Should a person who owns multiple cars or homes get rid of them because he does not really need them?

I understand why he surrendered these guns, but I don’t like it. Accusations are not the same as criminal charges.

The “most successful democratic republic in the history of the World” was brought to us via the vision and foresight of the Founding Fathers who fashioned the Constitution, The Bill of Rights, and the Amendments to the Constitution. The Right To Bear Arms is not only one of the Amendments to the Constitution… it is the SECOND Amendment to the Constitution. It is behind only the right to free speech. What does that tell you about the framers of our government? These were brilliant men who with tremendous vision into the future and an ability to craft a new nations laws and citizens rights using their experience of having dealt with an oppressive government that afforded them no freedoms but rather taxation without representation. These brilliant men knew that a government By The People For The People would never be sustainable if The People had no way of defending themselves against enemies from within or without. The Founding Fathers were absolutely brilliant, insightful and visionary. You sir are not.

The article clearly states that the woman has a temporary protective order against him. If the allegations are true that he punched her in the neck and dragged her down the street while he sped off, then taking the guns seems like the absolute right thing to do.

While I don’t condone punching a woman, that is relatively common. Dragging a human being (especially the mother of your kids WHILE SAID KIDS ARE PRESENT) with a speeding car is a clear sign that you have some extreme issues.

To all those complaining about the confiscation of his guns. Second amendment goes out the window when domestic violence is proven. Cause the offender has shown a clear propensity towards violence. A condition of bond or orders of protection is to remove all firearms. When law enforcement didn’t remove the guns like they are supposed to often times the results are tragic and disastrous.

  41. jdfrox says: Dec 7, 2012 9:50 PM

As a father of two (daughter and son) what troubles me most about this is the allegations of hitting his fiancé. I could care less about the gun issue. There is absolutely no excuse for laying a hand on a woman, much less the mother of your children, much less in front of his children. I am torn though because if he did, she should have reported the allegations to the police. So I wonder if she just said this because she wanted custody of her children. Clearly this is a toxic relationship one way or the other and I have to say that usually where there is smoke there is fire. But again, if she had all these injuries, she should have called the police. If sizzle is a wife beater though, I am done with him. Very disappointed.

Brennankm46, makes an excellent point. However, I would have said Suggs doesn’t exactly have an arsenal, especially considering the types of weapons. One decent handgun, in the hands of a well trained and properly motivated individual, can clear the corner.

Also, please read the 2nd Amendment. It doesn’t say every tool in the country should have a freaking gun.

How you defend a system that allows a disillusioned kid to walk into a theater and mow down innocent people with an assault rifle is beyond me. Have you ever read a book? Do you see citizens of countries like Denmark, Canada, England etc. murdering each other in record numbers like the in the US? To all those quoting the second amendment, somehow I don’t think that Suggs has all those guns because he wants to defend himself against an oppressive government. Thr goal of honoring the constitution often lies in intelligent interpretation of it. Even with free speech, you can’t “yell fire in a crowded movie theater.”

So, yes in this context, when law enforcement has reasonable cause, they can take his guns away to protect someone Else’s rights to life liberty and pursuit of happiness.

And you can’t just say this is an oppressive govt disarming its people. Suggs may work through the system to get these guns back or obtain others.

  64. stewart09 says: Dec 8, 2012 5:08 AM

EACH DAY that stat is from 2011 its not about getting rid of guns all together its about proper licensing and control so tragedies like what happened in Colorado dont happen again and suggs… you could kill most normall ppl with your fists you dont need 5+ guns.. 1 is enough for any man.
