The difference between Millers penalties and fines and those of other players is that his have been hustle plays and usually unavoidable things like hitting the qb too low, he’s only had his hit on Sanchez last year, and his hit on Schaub this year that were actually flagrant fouls on a qb. Also the league doesn’t care about the one against the Pats because he did it to a lineman which is also why it was a lesser fine, if he did it to a qb he most likely would have gotten a suspension right there.

The way these fines are handed out without any regards to intent is the biggest joke of all. It’s similar to the laziness I see in schools with zero tolerance policies that gives a kid the same punishment for possessing advil as they would get for weed. Or for accidentally having a scout pocket knife in their backpack which gets treated the same as a gun. All these get tough laws that leaves little room for judgement is idiotic. 3 strike laws in which a person’s 3rd strike could be nothing more than possession of small of weed can get a person life. Or the insane Rockefeller drug laws. I can go on and on.

Let’s be honest about what the fans really want to see. The NFL is a modern day Roman Colosseum and the fans want to see physical, hard hitting action mixed with skill & well orchestrated plays. Injuries are an integral part of the mix.

Not only do the fans want to all that, they pay ridiculous amounts of money via, tickets, team gear, concessions, and biggest of all the potential return on broadcast advertising (TV contracts pay exorbitant amounts of money to NFL teams) to see all those things.

My opinion is a bit crass, but NFL players get compensated very well for a reason. A lot of these injuries are just an occupational hazard and they get paid very well to assume that risk.

The difference between the number of times players are getting fined before suspensions is that the ones getting suspended after fewer fines are those whose fines are all for helmet to helmet hits.

There are not 4000 former players suing the NFL for leg injuries while there are for concussions. That’s the difference.

So Reed and Harrison who have made numerous helmet to helmet hits are going to be targeted for suspension sooner than players who simply injure someone’s leg.

Ed Reed and James Harrison gotta be laughing their azz off. Talk about different standards for different players. This is my biggest issue with Goodell and the NFL, the disparity in how fines and suspensions are meted out. How does 5 times in less than two full seasons not earn a suspension……how does Suh-sie pulling his crap after the play time after time not get him a progressive suspension????? This is where you’re losing the fans Mr. Goodell……you need to straighten this chit out….and soon.

I’m uncomfortable with all these willy-nilly, post facto fines. When it comes to the integrity of the game, how are we not to wonder if someone in the league is trying to steer the outcome of the season?

For this reason, the NFLPA should be (if they’re not already) all over this.

When this was happening to James Harrison, lots of fans said it was well deserved and Harrison was a repeat offender and therefore needed to be suspended, because fines were not changing Harrison’s style of play. Now when it’s a player for your team, you say Miller shouldn’t be suspended? The bottom line is this, neither Harrison not miller are dirty players, they play the game up to the edge the way it was played for years, and players are having a hard time trying to adjust their game to the new rules. However the rules have been in place for 3 years now, players have been suspended, and players like Miller need to fall under the same guidelines players like Harrison had to adjust to. The league could settle all of this and just come out with a fine system that ultimately results in suspension. I’m sure the players are just as confused as us fans are when it comes to Goodells system of fines and punishment.

There’s a huge difference between incidental contact and purposeful, malicious tackling. I agree that if a quarterback is in the pocket, standing still, his knees should be protected from people INTENTIONALLY targeting them. But if a QB is running away to avoid contact you should be allowed to dive at his feet and legs to make a tackle.

James Harrison is not even one of the greatest. Look at Demarcus Wares stats, that dude IS one of the greatest pass rushers of all time. He has the stats year after year.

As a Steeler fan I think this is BS. Fines are BS. Suspensions are BS. There is no system in places to place players under suspension or fine them. Place some consistency in this. Make it a point system or something. This random dolling out of fines/suspensions are ridiculous!

Second the NFL has become a touch football league and that is why they are not consistent week in an out. Goodell needs to be replaced and let’s let the guys play football and tell them what the rules are: The NFL has to either set certain rules and stick with them, or It could be said that the League is being biased and unfair.

If we have no kickoffs and no pass rush we could call the NFL the TFL (Touch Football League) and have basketball scores each week. This would ruin the game….Goodell are you listening!

I can’t remember all of these, but 2 of these were for the lame “helmet between the #’s” hits. To me these type of hits are more accidents than anything else.

Driving the QB into the ground, horse collaring, launching your helmet into the offensive player’s head, and spearing down player are the types of hits that deserve to be looked at as suspension worthy.

If you let these suspensions come on random criteria then anyone who gets enough pressures on the QB will probably end up being punished just because the ability to hit the QB legally is getting tougher.

The NFL has to either set certain rules and stick with them, or It could be said that the League is being biased and unfair. One player gets suspended for 3 late hits, another has 5 hits and is still playing. Maybe something like so:

1 late hit= $5,000
2 late hits = $10,000
3 late hits = $20,000 + 1 game suspension
4 late hits = $40,000 + 3 games suspension
5 late hits = $80,000 + 5 games suspension
6 in one season = Full year suspension

That way if the player doesn’t get the point after the 3rd, 4th or 5th violation, maybe the full seasons suspension will make it clear that the NFL means business when it comes to player safety.
