It took exactly one play for Saints cornerback Elbert Mack’s 73-yard interception return for a touchdown to be upstaged at the Meadowlands.
Giants rookie David Wilson took the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown of his own and the momentum, which had taken a big swing in New Orleans’ favor when Mack stepped in front of Manning’s pass and sailed to the end zone, swung back in favor of the Giants. Wilson nearly broke the opening kickoff of the game for a touchdown, but he got tripped up near midfield and the Giants’ first drive stalled.
The Saints connected on what looked like a big play to Marques Colston, but he coughed the ball up on a hit by Will Hill and the Giants were able to get right back in business. That lasted just long enough for Mack to pilfer Manning’s pass and put the Saints in the lead very, very briefly.
It’s 7-7 halfway through the first quarter and the Giants just got the ball back when Antrel Rolle knocked the ball loose from Saints fullback Jed Collins.
