Steelers O-line coach heading to UTEP

Kugler2

Despite the efforts of Eagles coach Andy Reid to promote his former offensive line coach Juan Castillo for the head coaching job at the University of Texas-El Paso, the current offensive line coach for the other NFL team in Pennsylvania has reportedly gotten the job.

Sean Kugler, a four-year UTEP letterman who has been coaching the Steelers’ offensive line for three seasons, will be named the next coach of the Miners, according to the El Paso Times.

It’s unclear whether Kugler will take the job now or finish the season with the Steelers.

For now, UTEP athletic director Bob Stull has opted to be coy. “Who is it today?” Stull said Saturday. “Yesterday it was [former Colorado coach Dan] Hawkins. Today, it’s somebody else. I’ll have to wait to tomorrow to find out.”

Kugler previously served as the Bills’ offensive line coach, and as offensive line/tight ends coach with the Lions. He spent 2006 at Boise State as assistant head coach/offensive line for the team that finished the season undefeated, winning the Fiesta Bowl in thrilling fashion over Oklahoma.
