Cutler says he’ll be ready to practice this week

Chicago Bears v Minnesota Vikings Getty Images

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler said he got treatment for a sore neck Monday morning, but expects to be ready to practice later this week.

Cutler left yesterday’s loss to the Vikings after taking a hard shot from Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen. He finished the drive but later came out.

Just tight,” Cutler said on his radio show on ESPN 1000. “Got some treatment this morning, so should be ready to go later in the week.”

“It was neck related. I was getting spasms. I wasn’t going to help anybody being out there.”

The Bears need him out there, and need him well if they’re going to keep the Packers from clinching the NFC North Sunday.

He’s lucky it wasn’t worse, that hit was vicious…Can’t wait to see the fine Griffen gets.

As for the Packers game, it won’t matter who the QB is if our receivers keep dropping TDs.

How is this guy supposed to make it through a season with that offensive line?

They better be all in on Jake Long or whoever else becomes available this year at tackle and should probably trade up and try to grab a guard because this is just getting silly.

  3. seamhereseamthere says: Dec 10, 2012 2:09 PM

Why were Bear fans taking shots at Cutler yesterday for coming out of the game? It’s not like he has a history of not going back into a game when he could ……..

    Oh wait. Never mind.

  4. chi01town says: Dec 10, 2012 2:11 PM

Lovie needs to go and he needs to take the rest of them old men with him. Tice, Urlacher, Peppers, an the whole O-line. Emery should go after a offinsive minded head Coach.. like Jimmy the 49ers offensive coordinator

Poor Jay… Vicious hit, but not fineable.

  7. thegreatgabbert says: Dec 10, 2012 2:29 PM

Man with all those spare tires around his neck, you’d think that would be the one part of Jay’s body that would be immune.

Bears gave up in that game, much like the rest of their season. I’d be surprised if they make the playoffs.

Not once has Cutler stayed out of a game voluntarily, in spite of what clueless haters such as yourself and str8up12 would have us believe…And real Bear fans know this.

Its seems like the Bears were leading the NFC North for the entire year and in the course of the last two weeks, flushed it all down the drain with two terrible losses.

Its Groundhog Day all over again and they proceed to lose a bunch of games in a row to drop out of the playoffs, only this year its with Jay Cutler at QB.

  11. mcmeen0576 says: Dec 10, 2012 2:46 PM

He totally has a concussion and him and the Bears are covering it up.

according to this article he took himself out of this game, so….this is awkward

Truth is this.. Our player personnel has outgrown our coaching staff. No longer is Lovie coaching scrubs & making them better, he is coaching All Star caliber players in a offense driven league, days of making the Super Bowl solely off tough nosed defense are over & with it Lovie Smith & his run as Bears Head Coach. Lovie has shown he is incapable of running this team with his failure to address his glaring need to build around his offensive line & until last offseason (if not for emery) acquiring Marshall to go with his allegedly “Franchise” QB. If management believes Cutler is the future they have to go out & get a proven HC that’s capable of getting the most out of Cutler & the rest of this offense (Mike Holmgren) someone who is proven & won Super Bowls that Cutler can believe in & start to believe in a REAL system. Cutler, Marshall, Forte etc. are the best core of talent we’ve had together offensively for a long while if ever!! Change needs to be made Mr. Emery & whether we make the playoffs or not I hope you make the right decision for the future of Bear Nation!!

    ———

I’d say go back and watch the tape. Griffen intentionally went low, and as he was going to hit him Allen wrapped up his legs and brought his head into the line of the hit. I can tolerate the flag although I don’t think there was anyway for Griffen to anticipate that his head was going to be in the path of the tackle, if there is a fine for this then the game has truly come to a sad stage. At this rate what quality athletes are going to want to play D in the future, as they are handcuffed in the name of creating offense.

Far too kind, dude. I’m a Bears fan and I say:
    Packers 34, Bears 10.

As far as all the Cutler haters talking about quitting, they are morons. Don’t let them get under your skin Bears fans. In my opinion, the only QB that is tougher in this league is Big Ben. NOBODY takes a pounding like Cutler.

  25. trollaikman8 says: Dec 10, 2012 4:00 PM

Cutler apologists are out in full force today.

He had a typical Cutler day….for once, his defense didn’t spot him 14 points.

  26. metalhead65 says: Dec 10, 2012 4:04 PM

so Cutler is the only qb that comes out of a game with whiplash, partially torn mcl. concussion or a broken thumb right? all other qb’s continue to play with those injuries and he is wuss for not is what you are saying? you are a complete idiot for saying that. he may be a jerk but he is as tough as they come on the field and you have to be to take the punishment this guy does every week. it is all his fault receivers fall down on routes and the ball is picked off or when they drop balls thrown right to him. there is a reason he throws to marshall no matter how many guys are covering him and that is he is the only guy who will at least fight for the ball if he can’t catch it. I would love to see any of the elite qb’s play in this awful offense and behind this hideous o-line. something tells me they would not be so elite.

NOBODY takes a pounding like Cutler… except for Aaron Rodgers, Andy Dalton, Andrew Luck, Tony Romo, and Philip Rivers of course. But NOBODY!

Have you seen the cardinals or eagles oline? Obviously not

It’s not the Bears haters or Cutler haters that are drawing negative comments. It’s football lovers who watch a qb that leaves a game when he knows he is going to lose with a sour look on his face and is magically cured the next day.

  29. chi01town says: Dec 10, 2012 6:25 PM

I hope Emery go after a freash new Head coach NOT an expensive old coach thats use to the old NFL. Greg Roman offensive coordinator for the 49ers or Pete Carmichael Jr. the offensive coordinator for the Saints BUT an Offensive back round is needed. Lovie and his OLD defense and them OLD players need to go. Urlacher.. peppers.. the Whole offensive line.. and Tice too. Emery has been the best thing that happend in Chicago

  30. iowahbr says: Dec 11, 2012 7:55 AM

Say what you will Cutler has guts. He ain’t the problem. The problems are the o-line, most of the receiving group, and most importantly the coaching staff, stuck in the 1980’s while the rest of the league is playing in 2012. Unfortunately this is a case of the patient needing to get sicker before it will discover and get the cure.
