I’ve always envisioned the kickers on the Tuesday tryout circuit traveling together, perhaps in a bus or a really small car, moving from city to city, pitching a tent, putting on a show and then moving onto the next town.
Today, the traveling kicker circus rolls into Chicago, as the Bears are trying out a few in case Robbie Gould isn’t able to play this week.
According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, they were expected to bring three in for an audition.
Gould suffered a left calf strain in pre-game warmups last week. He made two extra points, but didn’t attempt a field goal, and punter Adam Podlesh kicked off.
Veterans including Billy Cundiff, Olindo Mare and Neil Rackers are looking for work.
But Gould’s situation might not require a replacement just yet. He told CSNChicago’s J.J. Stankevitz Monday night he was fine.
“I’m good. Everything’s great,” Gould said at a charity event. “Just gotta rehab a little bit, get ready for practice this week and get ready to beat Green Bay.”
He might have some company if he’s not well, or else the bus will pack up and move onto the next city.
