Lots of Texans talk about how their D was banged up and to watch out if they get homefield advantage.

Last I checked - Green Bay went onto that home field and hung 42 on you. Passing for 6 TDs.

That was before the D was "banged up".

If Aaron can hang 6, Tom or Peyton can too. No one with a decent QB is scared of Houston. Talk up Wade all you want but he was dumb enough to play man against GB - basically daring them to throw and beat them with the QB. Seemed to not have learned his lesson and did the same against the Pats.

What have they won since spygate? A ton of football games. .750 win pct. 2 AFC championships. 5 division titles. And of course multiple NFL offensive records. Any other questions?

Step up your game Pats haters. It's getting way too easy to take you to school. You know, kinda like how Brady feels about your team.

Look, most players will speak confidently; some do so whether they have the resume to back it up or not. The Patriots usually speak their confidence AFTER playing, not BEFORE. When they lose, (and they do from time to time), they hate losing, and let they acknowledge that the other team played a better game and they credit their opponent.

Teams like the Giants and Patriots, who now have a long history, spanning decades, of winning championships, making playoff appearances, and Super Bowl victories (Patriots have three, but the Giants have two of the past five); to me, that gives them credibility when they say something.

Also, the Giants and Patriots know better: they'd rather "experiment" with their lineups and schemes, getting losses, kinks in their rosters, plays, and schemes, out of the way prior to December; I think both of these teams, which have coaches in the Bill Parcells tradition in Bellichick and Coughlin, both know how to do it, perhaps better than any other coaches in the league. So if that is construed to be arrogance, so be it; at least it is backed up repeatedly with results: division championships nearly every year, and Super Bowl appearances every third or fourth year; who else has done that?

It should be noted that it was the Texans own talk, and breaking out of Letterman Jackets for this game that set the table for what appears to be minor post game jabs from a couple players.

It should also be noted that when the Texans removed their starters and stopped trying to win the game, the Patriots did the same. The whole running up the score whining could be avoided if other teams also acknowledged that their own starters are at risk too, and removed them. Where guys get hurt a lot is when backups are playing against starters. You can lose depth that way. My guess is that the Patriots feel the best defense of players health is to play from strength, maintain possession of the ball, and dictate how the game is played out. Once Schaub and Company were taken out, Brady and others sat down too. I don't hear anyone singing their praises for this, but I didn't expect to.

Logan Mankins grew up in Grass Valley CA and played at Fresno State so he, like Brady, is quite familiar with the success of the pre-salary cap era SF teams.

Should be a much closer game this week. The Niners travel and play well back east and having watched that game on TV Monday night, I'm sure there will be extra effort in practice this week. Belichick should show the Patriots tape of the two other NFC West teams they lost to earlier this year to knock off any mild hubris the younger Pats may be feeling after a couple of prime time blowout wins, and remind them where they came from.

skoobyfl says:

AFC teams are weaker than NFC right now, so these exercises will equal futility come Feb 2013.

I think that was true mid-way through the season, but I don't see a team that can make the AFC's efforts futile. Not a single one. The Niners have a great defense, but their offense and coaching (in some respects) is suspect. Maybe the Giants put it together in the next two weeks? The Seahawks? I'm seriously interested to learn who you'd say.

Honestly, there is nothing that anyone can say this morning about the Texans team that their coaching staff and players don't deserve. They were terrible from start to finish.
Go home, break down what the Colts can and can't do and find a game plan to beat them. That's how you start rebuilding respect.

Actually, I blame this game on the Texans for buying into the belief that this was the "game of their lives"...really? We won a playoff game last year and almost beat the Ravens on the road with a rookie 4th rd pick. So, for Dre to come out and say that put a lot of pressure on the team win this game..when, it reality, they still can accomplish their mission on #1 seed still. As far as the Pats, hey good game. Dont think they will have same results in playoffs in houston next month. And, as far as all these Patriot lover boys...what have the pats won since they got busted for cheating? Just a question...

That letterman jacket nonsense was amateur hour. Bottom line is that this game was supposed to be proof that Green Bay was, as JJ What(?) put it, ”a fluke.” So much for that idea. Looked more like they genuinely thought it was a fluke and never coached up on fixing it.
—————————————————–
You’re out of your mind, seriously. Not a single Texans player or fan has ever said that the Packer game was a fluke. They beat us.

And as for the letterman jackets, everyone – fans, media, players – all loved it before the game. Then after the game, all the trolls say it was “amateur”. Nice to be hypocritical.
------

Umm, I'm not a fan, so no, it isn't hypocritical.

And JJ Watt was wired the week after GB for the home game against the Ravens and is clearly on the record saying the Green Bay performace was a fluke.

Get your facts straight.

I must be seeing different news reports than some of you. Because any time I hear Brady speak - he is NOT arrogant and is always respectful of the other teams and the players.
The majority of those I have seen and heard also downplay their wins and give props to the team they played and their own teammates. So I don't understand those that say they are egotistical and not humble.
I think AP and PM have done phenomenally well this year. And I may not like it or agree with it - but I will give kudos and respect to whoever they name as the year's MVP.

I love when haters keeping bringing the past when it comes to the Pats. They lost the last two SB and they lost to the jets in the playoffs after humiliating them in the regular season.

The game plan the jets formulated and used against the Pats that year will no longer work against them because the Pats have a running game now. Same thing in 07. The Pats have been so successful because of Brady period. Now you add an improve defense with a very good running game, I think they are a legit contender to win it all.

You people talk as though the Pats were never in those two SB games. The giants had to come from behind to win both SBs. Without a running game, it's very obscure for any team to close out games, especially big games.

I liked the letterman jackets. Pretty cool. If they won everybody would be running out to buy them.

As for the comments... clearly some of you Pats haters aren't aware that it was eventual Hall of Famer Andre Johnson who said before the game that it was the "biggest game in franchise history."

As for Mankins... anyone that follows that Pats knows that he's a mudder. His comments are both a jab at Houston and a compliment to the Niners.

I am not blaming the refs by any means here.

The first 3 TD drives were extended by Texan penalties on 3rd down. You give a QB like Tom Brady a second chance.... he'll eat you up.

If those three drives end in punts or FG tries, this is a different game. maybe same outcome, maybe not. But when the Texans were down 21-0 right out of the gun... took the wind out of the sails.

But they didn't, the Pats scored TD's on all 3 and the Texans got theis azz whooped. I am a bit afraid that this team peaked in Sept/Oct. 3 of the last 4, the defense has gotten CRUSHED. JJ Watt cannot be the only guy rushing the passer. Barwin, Smith, and even Mercilus ( I know he had a sack last night, but he was unblocked)

A loss is a loss, if you win by 1 or 28, still just counts as a loss. Texans are 11-2, not too shabby. Also, I think this game would have been different had it been played in Houston. Foxboro is a tough place to play, no doubt, especially when the refs help out the home team! Now if the Texans can hang on to the #1 seed and possibly meet the Pats in the AFC champ, I guarantee the game will be much closer. I seem to remember back in 2010 that the Jets were embarrassed on a Monday night in Foxboro 45-3, but took care of the Pats in the AFC divisional round (in Foxboro no less)! This game may help the Texans to “re-focus” and possibly finish the season with 3 straight wins which would put them at 14-2.

The difference is the Patriots defense is play a lot better now than it has been in the last 3 years.

That letterman jacket nonsense was amateur hour. Bottom line is that this game was supposed to be proof that Green Bay was, as JJ What(?) put it, ”a fluke.” So much for that idea. Looked more like they genuinely thought it was a fluke and never coached up on fixing it.
-----------------------------------------------------
You're out of your mind, seriously. Not a single Texans player or fan has ever said that the Packer game was a fluke. They beat us.

And as for the letterman jackets, everyone - fans, media, players - all loved it before the game. Then after the game, all the trolls say it was "amateur". Nice to be hypocritical.

I live in Houston....while Im a Texan fan, Im not a fanatic...Im a realist....they played well early, but the defensive injuries, especially at LB and secondary, have taken a toll on this team and it shows.

the DB's are garbage...they cannot play man to man, and thus they have been given up all kinds of passing yards the last four weeks, but that also brings into the question the defensive line...if you are not getting pressure on the qb and letting him stand back there all day, any qb in this league including the sorry ones will eat you up.

the texans are a team that play best when they are in the lead...when the get behind, its hard for them to come back...they did so against Jacksonville and detroit, but facing new england and competeting with them is a totally different.

finally, the fair weather fans down here in Htown have been running their mouths all season about the super bowl...ever since the Texans beat the Broncos (had a 31-10 lead and won 31-25) they think their destiny is New Orleans on Feb 3...hopefully, this gave them and the Houston media a dose of reality...this wasnt the most important game in franchise history and if it was, the franchise should fold....its one of 16......

the playoffs start on sunday for the Texans...they better reach down and grab ahold and come out with fire against the Colts, who are right on their back for the division lead....Texans still control their own destiny for home field advantage in the playoffs.
