Bunch of arrogant skins fans. Overlooking the Browns. Browns lost to Philly by 1point, went to overtime and lost to the cowboys by a fg, lost to the ravens close twice...led the giants by 14 before losing ugly. All those games and those stats pointed out above, happened early this year. 26 of the 53 man roster of the Browns are 1st or 2nd year players. So the point is that they are growing into a formidable team after learning how to play. Can't wait for Sunday for those scoffers to see for themselves. By the way, the Browns run D is actually pretty decent.

The logical and safe move is to sit Griffin to play another day. But we are also talking about a team that hasn’t smelled success and hasn’t reached the playoffs in years. And a fan base that has been brought to life and is enjoying the season that the team has built up to this point.
Cousins certainly did not make it any an easier decision for Shanahan by his performance last week.

In one case, yes, you would want to play your starting QB at a critical game, but on the other hand, you would not want to take any additional risk of him hurting himself more than he is. You also have the option of playing the backup at the moment as he, himself, has shown he can be relied when called upon.

I don’t envy Shanahan’s position. And either team can definitely win on Sunday. Tough decision!!!

Griffin reminds me of Steve Young. Both are very athletic who use their feet to keep the chains moving, but were very smart players. Griffin has a stronger arm, but Young was very accurate. Young realized he couldn't keep running as he was getting beat up by headhunting defenders, so he became more of a pocket passer and won more. Too bad his offensive line was swiss cheese and let him get knocked out.

Everyone relax. This is precisely why Shanahan spent such a high pick on a backup QB. At the time, everyone was bemoaning the fact that Cousins would be "wasted" since he was good enough to start. Well, now that he may be starting, all of a sudden he stinks and you can just put the "L" in the column. Whatever. And he hasn’t missed any games.

Peyton, Brady, etc have missed entire seasons from hits in the pocket.

At least when you are running, you can usually see the hits coming.

Football is dangerous everywhere.

I wouldn’t change a damn thing about the way he plays.

He hasn't miss any games YET.

I also "wouldn't change a damn thing" either about how he plays.

I can't believe not 1 skin fan has says that they would prefer he stats in the pocket and pass. I guess ya all are as oblivious as the shanahans are.

Eli can read defences and throw for 1st downs and rarely even gets hit. I prefer our 2 time SB winning MVP but hey, that's just me :)

Nobody ever gets hurt in the pocket, right Brady? Palmer? Roethlistberger? Oh……

RG3 had ZERO designed runs Sunday. He scrambled 6 times, one more than Flacco.

Get over the “running QB” garbage. He got hurt on a scramble as he was falling down. And he’s the #1 rated passer in the NFL.

It’s football. Guys get hurt everywhere. The pocket, running, extra point attempts… hell, coaches tear ACLs on the sidelines.

You're absolutely right.

But given how often he's been hurt this year after only 13 games compared to guys like Flacco and that can only mean one of two things. He's either too stupid to protect himself or he's fragile. He seems pretty smart to me so that can only mean he's fragile.

You can't throw TDs in street clothes. Lots of guys with hall of fame talent have been busts simply because they're fragile. You've made a great case that Bob3 might be one of them.

You can’t throw TDs in street clothes. Lots of guys with hall of fame talent have been busts simply because they’re fragile. You’ve made a great case that Bob3 might be one of them.

mjzaky says: Dec 11, 2012 12:04 PM

RG3 is a great player, but this is exactly why a running QB his size is a dangerous prospect for an NFL franchise. Here they are in the thick of a playoff push with no room for error and the franchise QB is out.

The reason why I say ‘his size’ is that I think he, Kaepernick, Wilson, Luck should minimize running to a only-if-necessary capacity whereas a guy as big and strong as Cam Newton can run with much less risk. Since RG3 has shown that he has the mental and physical capability required to be an accurate pocket passer, I think it would serve the Redskins best to run a traditional offense with him and tell him to run only when he has to.
________
mjzaky- don't strongly disagree with your assessment, just feel bad for Kaepernick and his often and incorrectly maligned size. He is 6'5", 230 lbs, as opposed to Newton who is 6'5, 240. Meanwhile Luck is 6'4, 235, while Griffin is the exact same size as Rodgers and Romo, and thicker than Ryan, though a couple inches shorter.

Again, not saying your point is wrong, just that you're kinda off on the sizes. Also, I would argue (ironically in the wake of the injury) that the Redskins coaching staff has done an admirable job reigning in the option plays, the designed runs, and transitioning the offense towards more of traditional Shanahan Young/Elway offense where Griffin runs, as you said, "only when he has to".

And he hasn't missed any games.

Peyton, Brady, etc have missed entire seasons from hits in the pocket.

At least when you are running, you can usually see the hits coming.

Football is dangerous everywhere.

I wouldn't change a damn thing about the way he plays.

His scramble/dive on 4th down in the Carolina loss has been the catalyst for the turnaround this season. Not an incomplete throw from the pocket.

Not a skins fan, but I went to the game Sunday just to see RG3 in person. Say what you want, but that guy has the WOW factor!!!

He can run, pass and read the field. He looks so impressive that if he had to become a pocket passer someday - I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he wasn't just as successful.

Plus he seems to have a great attitude. The NFL needs more people like him.

Where are all these Cleveland fans coming up with this garbage about your team? You are 23rd in defense. 363 yards per game. Your 'great' running game averages 100.5 yards/game. Good enough for 24th in the NFL.

You won three straight (Pitt JV, OAK and KC). You need a serious reality check. Check the stats before you talk about how 'great' your team is playing.

Skins23...

Get over the “running QB” garbage. He got hurt on a scramble as he was falling down. And he’s the #1 rated passer in the NFL.

It’s football. Guys get hurt everywhere. The pocket, running, extra point attempts… hell, coaches tear ACLs on the sidelines.

----------------------------------------------------

Rg3 got hurt twice this season. Both times running.
I think your in running denial.

mjzaky - The reason the skins do no use a traditional offense (Running or passing) is their starting OL is poor. The pistol/option game freezes the defensive ends and forces them to maintain the outside edge which slows pass rush. A traditional offense would probably get RGIII killed a lot faster especially in a division with some VERY good pure pass rushers.

The problem with RGIII has nothing to do with the offense or the play calling. It is about his inability to understand that he should slide EARLY and OFTEN to avoid taking hits. Look at the concussion early in the year and this one. Both hits were not needed. He could have laid down 5 yards earlier and stopped the hit from happening.

Once he adapts he will be fine. Although we could be looking at another Michael Vick who never learned that lesson and is hurt ALL THE TIME.

If you are a true Redskins fan you would not be saying the nonsense about beating the Browns with any old QB. You would know that the Skins have a habit of playing down to their competition - see Panthers, Carolina, Rams, St. Louis.

But, I don't think the Browns are bad. They have won three in a row, have a beast of a young RB, speedy receivers and a smart young(ish) QB. The game is in their house, in December, and would not have been close to a lock with RGIII playing.

I am torn - this is a playoff game for the Skins but I want RGIII to play next year too so I think I would sit him unless he shows he is completely ok in practice. It will be hard to tune out all the noise from the experts all week. I honestly don't think we will know who starts until Friday or Saturday. HTTR.
