RG2 says RG3 plans to play this Sunday

Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garçon threw some cold water on hopes that Robert Griffin III would be able to start at quarterback against the Browns this weekend when he talked about what the team needs to do when Kirk Cousins is in the game, but there’s been no official word in either direction from the team.

There’s some more unofficial word, though, and it sounds a more positive opinion about the chances that hell be in the lineup despite a knee sprain on Sunday. Robert Griffin II, the quarterback’s father, told USA Today that his son expects to start.

“He’s doing great. He definitely said he plans to start. I haven’t seen him (the last two days). But he told me (today) everything has gone well,” Griffin II said. “He’s doing rehabilitation as far as the impact pain working with that. Monday he said he felt really good. Today he felt better. Every day he’s getting better. Monday he had no problems and throughout the workout, he had no problems.”

Griffin II joked that he hoped his son would leave the running to Alfred Morris against Cleveland, but we’ll have to wait to see how much of anything the younger Griffin is able to do once the team returns to practice on Wednesday.

  1. As a Redskins fan, can we just save all these stories about the QB situation until about 11 AM on Sunday when the starter is announced? Then you can just post one long story BTW feel free to focus on any real football information until then.

  2. I hope Shanny keeps RG3 out of the game. I’d rather see him healthy next week than out for the season with another injury–or worsening the injury he has.

  3. This guys career will be over before it really starts.
RG2 should really try to keep his son out until he’s %100 or at least until he gets a real payday.

So, I guess a $13.8 million dollar signing bonus from the Skins and tens of millions of dollars from all of his endorsement deals aren’t a real payday??? Go Skins!

Kind of hard to do with every week being a must win….

  5. @igstiri – If he takes us to two Super Bowls, winning one and plays 10+ years like Theismann I would be pretty happy with that.

Learn your facts and keep dreaming about the days of Otto Graham.

joe theisman all over again. go browns

Um…you do realize that Joe Theisman won a Super Bowl, right? So…um…thanks?

  7. @nohopeleft

You just showed how classless you are. Nomatter who it is, you don’t wish injury upon anyone. Pretty pathetic if you ask me. I’m going to laugh when RG3 and Alfred Morris and the rest of that offense shreds the Browns D. Do you seriously think the Browns D can do what other defenses who are A LOT better couldn’t do? If so then you need to watch more games. Yeah, the Browns are hot coming off wins against two of the worst teams in the NFL. Yeah, I have news for you, beating the Chiefs and the Raiders don’t make you a hot team.

  8. With or without Bobby Griffin, they’re still a 6 seed at best…. Hawks win the NFC West and get the 3 seed — the pigs come to Seattle…. and….. 58-0 all over again. Bobby Griffin ain’t no Russell Wilson

    Go Hawks

  9. Fans of the Browns and Redskins all believe their own team is on a roll. But, overall, the Redskins beat much tougher teams during their win streak than the Browns did on theirs. Doesn’t matter who is under center for the Redskins, they will beat the Browns on Sunday.

Bitter much at the Big Blue Beating the Skins put on you? 3 of the last 4 meetings the Skins have OWNED the G men. Would have been 4 straight if Madieu Williams hadn’t blown coverage and let salsa boy dance by him. You can hate RGIII all you want. The kid is an animal. For the haters who claim he is a runner? He has the BEST passer rating in the NFL Over the last 4 games and FAR surpasses your boy Eeyore’s rating for the Year.

13.8 signing bonus and $390,000/ year for 4 years with a team option for 5 yr, approx 5 mil/yr So roughly 1/3 of what Sam Bradford or Phillip Rivers makes. Rg3 is nowhere near even the middle of the pack as far as QB $$$ goes. It’s lots of money but its chump change comparatively speaking.
    GO CHAMPS! ie NYG!

“Eeyores” got 2 RINGS both are still VERY FRESH!!

Some body please tell this guy that the Giants are still first place in NFC east and heading to the playoffs. Get your popcorn ready….AGAIN! Hahahaha

With all this boasting about regular season wins your starting to sound like a Philly fan.

  13. HAHA!

Attempting to compare Theismann to RG3 in a ‘negative’ way (if even possible) is easily the most ignorant thing I’ve seen in a while…perfect example of talking out ones backside.

If RG3 were going into broadcasting you’d have an argument…

  14. @bigbluecrew420

While I’m sure your probably a pretty cool dude based upon the last part of your screenname, get the “Go Champs” chant out of your system now, you only have what like 2 months until you can’t say it anymore. Hey, I’m a skins fan, just NFC East rivalry trash talking.

  15. @trant13

I can tell by the fact that your a skins fan that you are bitter that NYG are clutch in the playoffs ( the part of the season that continues after your season is finished ) but you don’t need to hate. 🙂

  16. I wouldn’t play unless he is at least 95% healthy. The guy is “the franchise” and you don’t want to mess with that.

  17. With or without Bobby Griffin, they’re still a 6 seed at best…. Hawks win the NFC West and get the 3 seed — the pigs come to Seattle…. and….. 58-0 all over again. Bobby Griffin ain’t no Russell Wilson

You’re right, RGIII “ain’t no Russell Wilson”. He’s an entirely different qb with a totally different talent level. Wilson has played great and I think he’ll be a very nice qb, but do you really think he’s as talented or more so than Griffin? Really??? Having a top flight defense and a stud running back help much? If the Skins had Seattle’s defense we’d probably be undeafeated right now.

I’m glad Seattle fans have a good qb though, they deserve it. Best wishes to you guys, and really, Wilson comes across as another classy kid, I root for him. Just not against my Skins.

  18. Wow! So your Happy with the Redskins beating the GIANTS 3 out of the last 4. YIPPPEEE.

You sound like Eagle fan who continues to take great pride in Regular season wins against the GIANTS with nothing to show for it. Redskin fan you haven’t won anything in 20 years so go ahead be satisfied with regular season wins.

I prefer the numbers 2 out of 5 thats how many SuperBowls the GIANTS have won in the last 5 years, and by the way NONE of them were during strike shortened seasons like 2 of the Redksins SuperBowls. OUCH!

  19. RG3 is a super talent, but he isn’t Superman…He must change his game otherwise he will miss chunks of season like Mike Vick..Not being a hater it’s just the reality of the NFL.

  20. Big blue better not count the chickens too early cuz after the skins beat the browns and the giants fall to the falcons I’m pretty sure they have a tied record with the tie going to the skins. plus closing weeks looks a lot easier for the skins than the giants.

  21. Skins fan: remember who your team is before you start trying to take on the world. You are the whipping boy of the NFC East. No one was afraid of you before your entire offense severely sprained its knee on Sunday and they definitely aren’t now. Get some perspective. You’re not relevant. Trust me as a fan of a team that doesn’t matter when I tell you your team doesn’t matter. And don’t think for one second that your backup with 4 minutes of NFL experience is going to come in and rollup the Browns like it’s a BYE week. Even the Cardinals would find issue with that thought.
