Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has his eyes on the single season rushing record thanks to performances like the one he put up against the Bears last Sunday.
If he should fail to reach Eric Dickerson’s historic mark, Peterson will be able to take some solace in the fact that he was named the NFC offensive player of the week for Week 14. Peterson earned the honor by carrying the ball 31 times for 154 yards and two touchdowns, which were crucial to a 21-14 win that kept playoff hopes alive in the Twin Cities.
Peterson has now rushed for 1600 yards on the season, putting him on pace to finish just short of 2,000 yards for the season and even further away from Dickerson’s record of 2,105 yards. He’s rushed for at least 108 yards in each of his last seven games, good for an average of more than 157 yards a week and keeping up that kind of production would put him very close to Dickerson’s total.
If he’s able to up that production even more and catch Dickerson before the finish line, Peterson might be in line for a lot more than weekly hardware.
