It’s always boggled my mind, that guys who routinely get tackled around their thighs and knees don’t have padding there. Thigh and knee pads combined may weigh 10oz. Def not enough to slow a guy down.

I’m glad the NFL brought this back. Missing 3 weeks with a deep thigh bruise is avoidable and dumb.

The FOAM thigh and knee pads do nothing other then possibly preventing some bruising.

I don’t know what the problem is. Hockey players are pretty much covered from head to toe and football is much more physical then hockey.

Let’s face it…looks are a big part of the reason the NFL is cool, because the uniforms look good (ask any woman). Who wants to watch a bunch of Sumo wrestlers or whatever.

The same players who are bitching about the pads will be the first ones to complain or sue the NFL because of injuries they suffered from playing.

I think that it is comical that the league is having lawsuits for player safety, but the players wont wear protective equipment because they need to look pretty. We all know there was the bounties going on, and the saints we involved, but you cant punish me because you did not inform me enough that it was illegal. I would be throwing this back into the faces of the people suing the NFL, we are trying to make the game safer, but its the players who do not want it.

This is so irritating. How can the union go after the NFL for safety when a lot of its members are more worried about the looks of equipment than the effectiveness of it? SMH.
How about players wear it and if they don’t wear ALL of it they sign off on any lawsuit related to their health…ever.

I used to work in a maintenance department and we had ZERO choice about safety equipment. It was mandated by OSHA and they checked periodically. And if our managers caught us without, we could get that held against us. Oh wait…we didn’t have unions “PROTECTING” us from the law or rules in our workplace.

Players might not like it, but these seems like a reasonable safety measure, unlike others suggested recently (cough, eliminating kickoffs, cough).
