rc33 says: Dec 12, 2012 9:23 AM

Meanwhile, with the draft pick obtained for Seymour, New England has its left tackle for the next 10 years.
Sey’s been a good player in Oakland but that trade never made sense for a rebuilding team.
Like Oakland.
------------
The Raiders have a pretty decent left tackle as well, and it only cost them a 3rd round pick. And Seymour wasn't traded to a rebuilding team. Davis didn't rebuild, but they are now, and Seymour will be moving on. But he was good for the Raiders. He brought leadership and a stout inside presence to the line. And if Oakland had held on to the pick, they probably would have drafted Titus Young, or some other loser.

As a Raiders fan, I'm torn. I love the way Seymour plays. Here's my favorite Seymour Raiders stories.

When he was traded, there was a two day gap where he didn't acknowledge the trade and everyone (PFT included) thought he didn't want to join the Raiders. He quelled this rumor by saying that he hadn't slept for two days because he was thinking about how to live 3000 miles away from his family. It was tough for him. The thought of moving his young daughters into a new school during the school year was ridiculous. I love that about Seymour. He cares about his family.

Seymour is a staunch family man and by all accounts, a great person off the field.

On the field, he is more violent than anyone else in this generation of players.

In his first game, one in which he had only one day of practice to prepare, he played all around the defensive line as an end, a three-technique tackle, and a nose tackle. He had two sacks and countless pressures. We lost, but his play was dominant.

While he never lit it up with high sack totals, Raiders fans will tell you that he tried to inspire Kelly in a way that Sapp never could, and he helped change the culture. When Tom Cable finally got us to 8-8 and a game behind KC for the division title two years ago, no one was more responsible for it than Big Rich.

These last two seasons Seymour has broken down, and he definitely won't be a Raider any longer, but damn, he's a Raider lifer to me.

In retrospect, Seymour played pretty well for the Raiders but I don't think that he was anywhere near worthy of the price of a high 1st round pick.

On the other hand, with the Raiders' drafting record in Al Davis' later years said 1st rounder probably would've probably been a bust anyway if we had kept it. And at least giving up a first rounder for Seymour wasn't outright disastrous for us as it was when Davis traded a first rounder for Randy Moss.

This is part if the long road to rebuild and turning the organization into a legitimately run franchise. Painfully, the team has to hit bottom on order to grow.

------

Yeah, you can check off the "hit rock bottom" box in the list of accomplishments. I believe they did that in the first few seconds of the SuperBowl versus Tampa.

Unbelievably, it's been downhill ever since.

I have a ton of respect for Seymour however I think it would serve the team best to invest those dollars into younger players that they can build upon over the coming years. The Raiders are not going to be contending for a SuperBowl over the next year or two.

I agree. Aging, high-priced players don't seem to be part of Reggie Mc Kenzie's plan. The Raiders need way too much to tie up a lot of salary cap on Seymour. Great player, but time to move on.

raiders will be bad for another 5 years if they dont get an entire NEW coaching staff this off-season,

mckenzie is too scared to pull the trigger on any free agents though, goodness,

at least Al would make the off-seasons interesting, outta desperation or hope , make a move,

or just stay below average and win 3-5 games every year.

keep mcfadden/palmer , get an offensive line, and WRs that can catch.

entire defense needs to be new. they got like 3 defensive players period.
