Goodell is well on his way towards “sissy-fying” the game. It’s a man’s sport, not baseball or soccer. Lawyers are going to do that to you everytime.

If players don’t like all the hits they take, RETIRE SOONER.

But MAN UP in the mean time and play the game. There are risks when you agree to play a game with 21 other angry people smashing each other, that’s why a player makes LOTS OF MONEY for working out, traveling, and playing the game.

Perhaps all players that get a life-altering injury or 3 years of NFL service should be guaranteed $50k per year for life? No, that’s not a lot in CA or NY, but man that will go far in Canton/Akron… I’m just saying… Not bad for a few years of athletics…

Sure, you mean the block on Lance Louis where he launched himself into the air and blasted Lance Louis like he was a guided missile? That was not a block, it was tagging a defenseless player.

Then there is his cheap shot on Matt Schaub’s knee from behind. Then there are the late hits and facemask grabs that he’s been fined for. Then there are his three DUI’s he got suspended for.

this entire situation is ridiculous. there are a LOT MORE dangerous careers out there that the average joe works on a daily basis. why don’t we outlaw coal mining or welding or other jobs where you can get seriously injured. these players know what they are getting into , just like every person knows the profession they enter with the risks involved

Let me preface this by saying that Jared Allen is an excellent football player. No doubt about it.

But am I the only one that doesn’t like Jared Allen and his personality? I think his sack dance is ridiculous and he acts like a college frat boy.

Maybe it’s just me. And it probably is.

Jared Allen can bluster all he wants, but if he were commissioner, he’d have league lawyers and owners breathing down his neck about the billion dollar lawsuits from concussions, screaming at him to do something to avoid FUTURE lawsuits.

Jared never even finished his degree. What does he know about liability? Unfortunately, the league is run by lawyers now.

Its a shame that Goodell has gone overboard with a few very high profile issues as it causes bias against some of the very reasonable changes he has brought to the game. Player safety should be a priority; its a matter of opinion when attempts to improve the safety actually impact the spirit of an aggressive physical sport however. Unfortunately, the rash of over the top fines, the replacement refs, and the whole bounty thing were handled poorly. I personally think that improving equipment, more objective assessment of head injuries and changing rules to decrease the likelihood of severe head and neck trauma are common sense ideas that do not ruin the integrity of the game. If you wanna watch guys try to kill eachother, go watch ultimate fighting championships.

Just an observation:

I find it interesting that alot of current players are against the rules that protect them while alot of former players are now suing the league for NOT protecting them. This is the leagues best argument in any lawsuit brought against them by players for injuries suffered during their careers and I’m sure the league grabs every one of these quotes and smiles while they put them away for when the time comes to use them.

Can’t have it both ways fellas…and fans

I don’t necessarily agree with Allen that football should go back to its rawest state … but please Mr. Goodell, show me some data to prove you’ve made the game safer. Please. I’m still seeing just as many guys get concussed as ever. All I’m seeing from you is neutered defenses, absurd fines, and insanely uneven flagging on the field. Please–show me how this had helped protect anyone’s health and safety.

Horsecollar is a good penalty to have in the mix. When the most frequent result of a certain type of tackle is a severe injury to the person being tackled, its not a good thing.

Which doesn’t mean Goodell hasn’t done a lot of things that I think are hurting the sport but you also have to ask the question would it be different if another guy was commissioner ?

If Jared Allen was named commissioner tonight does anyone really thing the league’s attorneys would allow him to reduce any of the emphasis on helmet to helmet hits for example, with 4000 former players suing the league ? Of course they wouldn’t.

As I said the other day in one of the Toredol articles, might as well change the name of the league to the National Attorneyball League because the more lawyers are involved in making decisions about the league the less the game will resemble actual football.

This is why everyone gotta love Jared Allen. He tells it like it is and he backs it up on and off the field. His Homes For Wounded Warrior Project is one of the best foundations, especially for what it does for the veterans of OUR country. Allen’s a monster on the field and one of the best guys off the field.

Remember that the Commissioner is not the owner(s) …..The changes to the NFL game are not entirely up to him. Jared Allen is a great defensive football player, but I wouldn’t have him as my quarterback, much less my Commissioner.

The Commissioner is doing a great job for the owners and the league as a business. Don’t expect changes at that position anytime soon.
