Report: Ratliff has sports hernia surgery, out for season

Jay Ratliff AP

The Cowboys problems in the middle of their defensive line aren’t getting better any time soon.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, nose tackle Jay Ratliff had surgery this morning in Philadelphia to repair a sports hernia. The procedure will keep him off the field from three weeks to six weeks.

It’s unclear at the moment if he’ll go on injured reserve, or whether they’ll hang onto him for a potential playoff run.

UPDATE 3:18 p.m.: Nick Eatman of the team’s official website says Ratliff’s season is over, and he’ll go on IR.

He’s played his last game with a star on his helmet.

Yeah sure “sports hernia”….just tell the truth: he fought with his 70-year old owner and lost. Jerry Jones is a bad bad man!

I think they play him out of position, Too old and small to take on double teams in a 3-4 defense.. Move him to DE and extend his years of playing

    Nobody cares about Dallas anymore.

Great player, used up early in his career playing at NT on all 3 downs at well under 300 lbs. $5 million next year sounds like an awful lot for what he might be expected to play.

Injury bug has not been kind to Dallas. I don’t know if thats due to conditioning, a voodoo priest, bad luck, or what.

What I do know is that Dallas is done. There are too many key players out for the season, and the remaining players just don’t have enough to overcome this.

    Another year of mediocrity, sigh.

Including nickel CB, that’s SIX defensive starters out for the year. We also have an abysmal OL and the very worst run game in the NFL. Any of you football geniuses still think Romo’s the problem with this team??

I feel so bad for rob ryan haha the defense was never healthy outside of 2 weeks and up until he lost 4 of the 7 starters that are out for the year he was able to keep the defense one of the best in nfl.

This is so cowboys (as a ‘boys fan), the defense kept us in games and we were all waiting for the offense to get on track and make us unstoppable and as soon as the offense starts going rob ryan loses an average of 1 pro bowler and 1 starter a week for 3 weeks.

    Goodnight Dallas.

    I guess he showed Jerry.

The Cowboys should have moved him to end – less wear and tear, even in a 3-4. I hope he comes back next year…healthy.

    ====================================

Replace Romo with Flacco, and “worst run game” with “recently fired coordinator who forgot Ray Rice is on the roster” and that’s exactly how us Ravens fans feel…

He then called Jerruh and they both got into an argument.

Makes Jerry Jones look kind of foolish saying to Ratliff, we need you out there.
