I like Kluwe’s comments. The best part is that he has an intelligent rationalization behind them.

He hear so many inarticulate, ignorant, and just plain stupid things come out of people’s mouths why bash people when they are intelligent, even if we disagree with them it is still something interesting.

I love Kluwe, he’s always hilarious expressing his opinion. As a punter, it isn’t like he needs to do a whole lot of preparation each week. The long snapper snaps the ball, he kicks it. That’s it, that’s his job. It doesn’t matter if they’re playing the ’85 Bears or the ’07 Lions, the plan is the same: catch the ball and kick it, preferably inside the 20. Being a holder for the place kicker is the same, catch the ball and put it down (laces out!). If it was your QB or MLB making these comments it might be a concern, but a punter can talk all he wants as long as he keeps kicking well.

Fans (even of other teams, like myself) love Chris Kluwe. The guy is entertaining. The Vikings really only have three guys that are appreciated on a mass level – Jared Allen, Adrian Peterson, and Chris Kluwe. Why would they want to dim their appeal to fans by not allowing Kluwe to be himself? He also seems to be doing the same job on the field regardless of his “distractions”, so it’s not like it’s interfering with his job.

While we all enjoy players who speak their minds and avoid the cliche-mill, Kluwe needs to remember one thing:

The biggest reason that he has a forum to present his many opinions is that he is an NFL punter. He might just want to keep that position if he wishes to enlighten the masses with his thoughtful commentary.

At least until his band signs a recording contract.
