The only debate with luck is whether he or Wilson will finish 2nd in voting.

Compare them as QBs as much as you want then realize that RG3 is 20th in the league in rushing yards with 6 td's, just behind McCoy and just in front of Turner.

Yes, that means RG3 is the best OFFENSIVE rookie.

As someone who is partial to the Redskins, I want to challenge the notion that RG3 has had a better season than Luck. First off, let me get a few things out of the way.

a) Both RG3, Luck, Russell Wilson, AND even Ryan Tannehill have had solid to great rookie seasons.

b) No way is Luck MVP. No way. I love his potential, but if you want to use valuable as the key factor, and not who is best, I would argue that Tom Brady is easily the most valuable player. We've seen OC's come and go there, and the offense keeps humming. Sure, McDaniels has made some changes this time around, but look at the personnel around Tom. A slot receiver, and inconsistent deep receiver, 2 amazing TE's that have both been banged up this year. The OL might actually be a bit under-rated, but you put Ryan Mallett in there, and I'm not at all confident the Patriots are anywhere near that good.

I admittedly haven't seen enough of Russell Wilson or Ryan Tannehill to venture into discussions on their rookie season. But on this notion that RG3's season has been easily better, I would challenge that.

a) Luck is running a much tougher offense on the QB. This is no knock on Arians schemes, but we somehow have gotten to the stage where we think a spread offense is easy on the QB. The Shanahan's have done a fabulous job of scheming, limiting the reads. As the season has progressed, they've gotten a bit more complex. From the get-go, Luck has been thrown the book and told to run a fairly complicated passing attack.

b) RG3's supporting cast is far better than Luck's. The Colts have a weak run game. Vick Ballard and Donald Brown are both under 4 ypc. A QB's best friend is still a strong run game, and while part of that may be attributed to the design of Arians offense, they simply don't have that much talent there at RB. Alfred Morris has proven to be a stud workhorse, and Evan Royster is a solid backup.

The Redskins OL is better. Trent Williams has been an absolute beast this year. I would even argue that the Redskins receivers are a touch better, but that's a bit more debatable. At the very least, with a healthy Pierre Garcon, the receivers are close. TY Hilton and Donnie Avery fit what Arians wants at receiver, but I don't buy that they are necessarily better than Santana, Josh Morgan, and Leonard Hankerson. The Colts do have two excellent young TE's.

_______

This isn't meant to bash RG3 or overly praise Luck. He has thrown his fair share of interceptions. That said, having watched both this year, I'm just not sure why some of the above comments suggest that RG3 has had a much better year. Based on the total package of responsibility and performance, I would tend to lean to Luck as having had the better rookie season, but at the very least, it's close.

LOL. Wait wait wait. The same Andrew Luck who has completed 54% of his passes and has 28 turn overs? The colts were in a lot of close games last year and things didn't go their way. Things are going their way this year, but I'm sorry, Luck is no where near MVP talk and I dint understand the pro bowl votes either. Yeah, he's going to be a great QB, but THIS season he has not been. He's not even the best rookie at his position. How could the 3rd best QB in his own rookie class win MVP? Plus their schedule is a joke. Come play some real football up in Seattle ya goober. I'd love to see you get picked off by Sherman a few times.

He makes a good point either how far the colts have come but its not necessarily fair to base the decision solely on that since most other candidates were on their teams last year. if you took Brady out and had mallett starting they would be in the 2-14 range, same with osweiler starting over manning. But sadly MVP has changed to best statistical season rather than valuable or Manning would have won it last year.

1: rookie passing record- luck
2: most passing yards in a game by rookie-luck
3: most wins ever by a rookie quarterback drafted 1st-luck
4: leads the league in come from behind wins-luck
5: took a 2-14 team to the playoffs in one year-luck
6: Peyton manning threw 28 interceptions in his rookie year
Pretty impressive records to be broken, but he isn't better than Wilson, who isn't even a top 25 quarterback, he's not even the best quarterback on the hawks. Rg3 is amazing, no doubt, but everyone said that rg3 would be way more successful because he has the better team this year. Where's that at? Trust me when I say, luck will have a much better career than anyone of the QB's drafted this year. I don't even think Russell Wilson has any business being an NFL quarterback! He is horrible, without lynch and that defense, he would be another Sam Bradford. Luck will win many MVPs, and multiple superbowls, while rg3 can be a stat machine all he wants. Same story about cam, too bad in one year luck has won as many games as cam has in 2 years. But yeah, he's not MVP, or ROTY worthy... People who talk sometimes should really think about what they are saying. Luck is hands down a top 6 quarterback right now, even making "rookie" mistakes.

Not a chance…Luck isn’t even a top 5 QB this year – I’d take Brady, Manning, Rodgers, Griffin and Wilsons year(s) ahead of Luck…he’s an interception machine – the only reason he’s had do many comebacks is he is constantly digging holes for his team

He ultimately may well end up better than Griffin or Wildon down the road – but he is a step behind both at this stage

Put Griffin under center for the Colts, he would be killed. Luck doing a lot more with a lot less of a team.

Geez, imagine how valuable Luck would be if he didn't turn the ball over to the other team 24 times all by himself. (Counting fumbles lost). That's 24 extra posessions he gave the other team. That's not very valuable to your teams success.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it Fleener.

P. Manning is the MVP, but more than anyone else Brady is the 1 player who means the most to his team. And he has the stats along with wins to show he is MVP. I just think Manning wins because the Broncos are vastly improved and he even has Moreno looking like an actual NFL running back.
But is All Day Peterson breaks Dickerson's record (Not likely) then he will win in a landslide. And take Comeback Player of the Year from P. Manning. Luck is doing better than expected though.

Let's be honest here. Griffin is going to get ROY for no other reason than the fact he is getting the most press. If he had stunk, he still would have gotten it. It's not about stats anymore, it's about camera time. Say what you will.

ilovefoolsball says: Dec 14, 2012 7:54 PM

It’s kind of hard to disagree I mean look how much they sucked last year. If not the MVP at least the rookie MVP.
Griffin, as great as he is, has a better team (or at least that’s what we thought) and is running a very college style offense.
Not only that but Luck is more advanced when it comes to reading coverage.

Also throw in that Griffin apparently isn’t an authentic black and it’s obvious that Luck is the winner because he’s authentically white.
________
I disagree with every one of your football related points (if he's so much better at reading coverage, how come he leads the league in interceptions, while Griffin has the least of all starting quarterbacks?), but your last line cracked me up so bad I had no choice but to give you a thumbs up.
