In the offseason, the Jets signed safety LaRon Landry to a one-year deal. When the one year ends, he’ll hit the market, thanks to a clause in his contract that prevents the Jets from using the franchise tag.
And Landry won’t be giving the Jets a hometown discount. Hell, he doesn’t even know what that means.
“What do you mean a discount?” Landry said, via Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “Take less over what? From where? . . . If that [were] the case, I would have taken a hometown discount and stayed with the Redskins. . . . I love the game. I love this organization. I love them for giving me an opportunity. But at the end of the day, I’m going to sit down with my agent and my family and make the best business decision.”
Landry is known as a fierce hitter, which has caused some to question whether he’s dirty -- especially since he has been seen celebrating after hits that put opponents on the ground.
“I might say something to myself . . . and they hear me,” Landry said. “When I clap, and they say I’m clapping because I hurt somebody, that’s really to myself. That’s just positive thinking to myself. It’s nothing like, ‘Okay I’m hurting this guy.’ It’s, ‘I hit this motherf----r, man.’”
He may be saying something like that when he hits the jackpot on the open market, or when the Jets give him a jackpot to keep him off the open market.
