With a cleared Vick, Reid says he’ll “stick with Nick”

Cincinnati Bengals v Philadelphia Eagles Getty Images

It wasn’t an inspiring performance, but in these white-flag days in Philadelphia, it was enough.

After last night’s 34-13 loss to the Bengals, and after Michael Vick was cleared from his concussion, Eagles coach Andy Reid said he was going to continue to start the rookie the final two weeks, according to Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

I’m going to stick with Nick,” Reid said, apparently going for a slogan to put on a bumper sticker (which you can see as he drives into the sunset soon).

Foles was a middling 16-of-33 for 182 yards, with a touchdown and an interception, losing a fumble as well as part of the Eagles’ five-turnover barrage.

Of course, when you’re in the middle of an avalanche like the Eagles season has become, it’s hard to blame an individual flake of snow, so if there’s no real accountability, they might as well let the rookie get some live reps.

doesnt matter…vick already brought this team and coach to its knees. His effect was systemic…and its now rotten to the core.

Vick was losing. Foles is losing. 2 defensive coaches. Get rid of “under achieving” DE.

    Common denominator?

    Andy Reid.

Translation: Vick’s done in Philly and Jeff Lurie needs to know whether to draft Matt Barkley.

I know it’s early but I’m an expert on predicting qb’s that Can and cannot play..foles is def on the cannot play list, nice backup but a starter in the nfl, naah

For a rookie having a limited amount of starts (4 or 5) he has played well, sure he makes some mistakes, that is to be expected. The alarming part is how horrible the eagle’s skill players (maclin, brown etc.) seem to be allergic to the ball.

  6. kleahy82486 says: Dec 14, 2012 8:11 AM

Yeah Foles played pedestrian but in his defense he didnt fumble like the article claims.

  7. bobbyhoying says: Dec 14, 2012 8:13 AM

The interception was his. The fumble was Bryce Brown’s, if you watched the game. Foles stuck the ball in his gut. The kid was sacked just once. He can’t be blamed for the ineptitude around him.

  8. vicksprman says: Dec 14, 2012 8:26 AM

Yeah Michael Vick hired Washburn and Castillo and taught the corners to be allergic to contact. Some people need to get a clue.

  9. themagicman1223 says: Dec 14, 2012 8:49 AM

Fole’s receivers also fumbled and when you see Brown carry the ball it clearly shows that he hasn’t started a game since high school. Great talent but needs to work on his fundamentals.

As an inside observer (Giants fan in Philly), i dont blame Reid, yeah the team was getting old and he’s past his time, but the downfall started when Roseman took over. I’m glad Reid will be gone since my Giants can seem to beat him lately, but knowing Roseman is pulling the strings makes me happy. The problem really became apparent when Wasburn (a Roseman hire) got let go and the defense picked up. Its pretty clear Roseman is pulling most of the strings and has no clue how to build a team with his Snyderesque flashy signings.

Reid may not be the best talent evaluator in the world but his method (offense and defensive lines) worked well and kept Philly competitive for years.

You guys need to oust that joke of a GM who is playing fantasy football.

Omg Andy Reid is doing exactly as he said he would a couple of weeks ago.

I have trouble believing that any quality coach would come in here with Howie calling the shots on personal. I don’t think Bill Cowher would. My guess is a real quality coach would want full control. After all, he will get full blame if he loses.

And that’s why you’re sitting behind a computer calling the shots, rather than making money doing it.

    Foles is legit.

It’s all just Fole’s gold. Don’t buy this kid philly. He cannot throw the ball deep. It’s evident every week on passes he completes and on incompletions or picks as well. You have to be really open to get the completion. Ie. maclin last night on the fake bubble screen and on the td in the cowboys game at home. people will start stacking the box and jumping the short routes. this will aslo make bryce bo jackson brown even more obsolete than he already is. it’s going to be a long time before philly has a competitive football team again. this thing is a train wreck.

Foles is equivalent to john skelton

And you apparently don’t have a brain. He has one of the stronger arms in the NFL right now. Do your research before you say silly things. It’s his 4th game as a starter and he’s playing with 2nd-3rd string oline and taking on 1st string defenses. Not only is Foles VERY smart but he knows the game of football. You are completely looney if you don’t see the future QB of the eagles in this guy. He has everything we need in a QB. Now the learning process continues. Give the kid an entire offseason with the 1st string offense and he will look great. Each and every game he has started he has improved game by game. This kids a winner and your a dolt if you disagree.

  18. bobonmycob says: Dec 14, 2012 6:18 PM

How can you talk trash about Nick Foles? LOL he’s a 3rd round QB for one. He has had NO practise with the 1st string offense ALL year and gets thrown into 4 games and improves more and more each game. Not only is he intelligent but he knows football and has peyton manning like ability to call audibles and read defenses. His arm is one of the stronger arms in the NFL and he’s accurate. Give this kid an off season as the starter to work on his mechanics and footing and I think we have our next QB for quite some time.

  19. nitro276 says: Dec 14, 2012 7:24 PM

Foles is legit. He was charged with Bryce Brown’s fumble on the handoff exchange….bunch of crap and that was on Brown.

Foles is highly intellingent, well-spoken, and seems to be a student of the game. I think he has the basic foundation that Tom Brady had. I am not saying he is Brady, but I think he is cut from a similar. Let’s not forget, he went to the same high school as Drew Brees and broke all of Brees’ records there.

Lets go back to last Sunday. Take all the Drama out of it. Foles led the Eagles to two touching down-scoring drives on the road with less than 4:00 to go, to win the game. Foles did that and you cannot take it from him. For as good as McNabb was at one time, I never felt comfortable that he could deliver in a situation like that.

Foles is a diamond in the rough.

  20. philyeagles5 says: Dec 14, 2012 8:08 PM

this kid would prolly be really good if he could throw farther than 20 yards.

  21. cunninghampeetemcnabbvick says: Dec 15, 2012 3:02 AM

Life long Eagles fan here and I am not convinced on Foles. It’s not that I think he can’t be a good quarterback, I’m just not sold yet. He’s made a lot of bad decisions, which to be fair is expected of a rookie 3rd round pick starting behind one of the worst offensive lines in NFL history. But that still doesn’t mean we should look the other way. I believe he has played well enough considering the circumstances to warrant further evaluation, and should no doubt finish the year starting. But I am definately not sold.

  22. joeyd524 says: Dec 15, 2012 7:17 AM

Hey sportguru, good point but just look at him,he doesn’t have IT..he should be surfing and eating burritos in SoCal,maybe I’m wrong time will tell but like I said I’m very good at predicting who has it and who doesn’t.

Ps.you have to be able to throw the long ball in the nfl,I don’t think he can, after the cinci game at least your 1 step closer to teo

  23. andyreidisthegoat says: Dec 15, 2012 9:33 AM

People who think foles is the future are delusional. I am sorry if I hurt your feelings about your qb but if you understand football you know this kid will struggle against good teams. He is your classic 6 to 8 win qb.

What’s your logic behind this statement? You can’t just say he’s a bad QB and not provide any proof. He memorized the playbook and hit the field executing every play without once having to look at the book and ITS HIS 4TH START EVER. He’s a 3rd round QB so he didnt have people fluffing him 24/7 like Luck or Griffin. Give the kid an off season and I bet you look like a dolt.

  26. andyreidisthegoat says: Dec 17, 2012 1:40 PM

Great bob he has a good memory and we should just wait longer for him to be good because he is a third rd pick. smart. Maybe his memory can throw the ball to desean 45 yards down the field.
