Getty ImagesRedskins quarterback Robert Griffin III had to be kept from returning to the field after suffering a knee injury on Sunday against the Ravens. He now has to be kept from playing on Sunday against the Browns.
Griffin has posted on Twitter that the decision that he won’t play “was not my own. . . . But I will be there for my team!!! In every way I possibly can.” (Rashard Mendenhall isn’t impressed.)
That message from Griffin seems to close the door on the possible loophole in the team’s official announcement that Kirk Cousins “is expected” to start. It also suggests that the doctors ultimately decided not to clear Griffin.
The question now becomes whether Griffin will be cleared for Week 16 against the Eagles, especially if the Redskins lose to Cleveland and fall to 7-7.
