Josh Brent already had a DWI conviction and got off lightly and kept drinking and driving. He may have an alcohol addiction and time in prison may be what he needs to break this addiction. So time in prison to break this addiction if he has one might just be what’s needed to keep the citizens of where ever he lives safe. Too many cases out there of drunks continuing to drive drunk after killing someone. So you may not agree as prison time for punishment but it will help keep people safe because history has proven that some drunk drivers will continue to drive drunk even after causing deaths.

Wonder how much the not wearing seat belts played into the crash. That might be the biggest lesson here, always wear your seat belt.

She is an example of living her faith. Most people in her situation would be calling for his head, but she has managed to turn the other cheek and forgive.

This such a horrible tragedy for everyone involved. Yes Josh will have to keep reliving it & that in itself is a horrible thing to have looping in anyones head but it was so senseless & unavoidable when he was given a gift 3 years ago that he didn’t appreciate. That this woman can forgive knowing that this is the second time he was caught & the authorities involved with Brent driving drunk is amazing. She’s an example for everyone. Unfortunately so it Josh Brent. If you are lucky enough to escape a first drunk driving conviction without maiming, hurting or killing anyone it should be a wake up call for some self-examination. If Brent had only been mature enough to understand what a gift he was given in 2009.

It would be nice if Brent could continue to earn a very large income and make sure Jerry’s unborn is fully taken care of.

If you throw him in jail and out of the league, he’ll earn 10 bucks an hour the rest of his life. Given him a chance to earn and pay restitution will be of far greater benefit to the Brown family. A player like Josh Brent could easily earn 10 million over the next five years before fizzling out.

I never understand the involuntary murder charges on these sorts of events. Yea Brent was drunk- but so was Brown. They both made the dumb mistake with not wearing seatbelts.

Losing a friend is the harshest punishment. That said- he should still face jail time for being a danger to the rest of us on the road.

His mother is right. While the whole thing is tradgic & heartbreaking, she knows her son made the choice to ride with a drunk driver.

These women truly understand the boys were close friends from college; Browns was staying in Brent’s house; they were having fun and tragedy struck.
Talk abt love, forgiveness and understanding reality and you will see Brown’s family. God bless them.

Similar incident with family members of mine. My cousin was street racing and flipped the car. His brother wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and the impact killed him(the passenger). He wasn’t convicted, didn’t do any time, but it’s a burden he’ll have with him for the rest of his life.

Bless these women that they forgive Brent, but he was driving while drunk and could have killed someone else’s child. For that he should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

I may be in the minority on this, but if the mother doesn’t want to prosecute, then the authorities should respect that.
Both young men made mistakes that evening.
This was not an intentional act.
