Mason Crosby’s misses a continuing problem for Green Bay

Packers kicker Mason Crosby may be looking for work soon.

Crosby missed another field goal on Sunday in Chicago, this one a 43-yarder that would have given Green Bay a 3-0 lead. That was his 11th missed field goal of the season, and he has now missed a field goal in eight straight games.

Although Packers coach Mike McCarthy gave Crosby a vote of confidence four weeks ago, it’s hard to believe that McCarthy could still be confident in Crosby now. He simply isn’t accurate enough on his field goals to justify keeping his job.

Crosby has been the Packers’ kicker for six years, and they may not feel comfortable making a change with the playoffs right around the corner. But they’ve got to be even less comfortable with the idea of Crosby lining up for a field goal with a playoff game on the line.

  1. Mason Crosby is supposed to be a professional player and yet Mcbarfy keeps coddling him and Banting him along – time to cut ties with the loser , Mcbarfy is losing control of this team they can’t even tackle anymore – AGAIN ! the whole team is getting treated like babies

  2. man, that’s kickers for you. they are amazing for a while, then hit a slump that makes no sense, then they go sign someplace else and all of a sudden are good again (case in point? the other kicker out there right now, playing for the Bears. Remember when Olindo Mare was untouchable in Miami?)

  3. When you have guys off the street like lai forbath coming in and going 15/15 to start their careers (plus how much cheaper he is than a guy like crosby), theres no reason to keep crosby around any longer.

Hataz’ gon’ hate… Judging by your level of animosity, I must assume you are a fan of the most sub-par division team… Hows that Detroit winter treatin’ ya?

  5. The problem isn’t a kicker that keeps missing FG’s.

The problem is a coach that keeps running him out there to do so.

  6. The idea that you can’t replace the kicker this close to the playoffs is ridiculous. What, are you afraid you are going to ruin team chemistry?

Trust me, the only thing other players on the team care about when it comes to the kicker is that he makes kicks.

  7. Joe Buck is absolutely horrible !! He couldn’t hold his old mans jock strap. Aikman, I thought he would be good but being paired with Buck is tainting him. Please Fox Sports, give us someone else.

  8. Adios’ Mason Crosby, it was good while it lasted but something in your preparation or technique has gone very wrong. Very Very Wrong !
Ted has to let you go Bro’.

Who’s telling you they cant replace the kicker ?
I’ll bet you $100 Ted’s on the phone as we speak calling free agents in for try outs. Crosby is most likely gone by Wednesday. He will not be here for the end of the season.

  10. Could they put Mason Crosby on injured reserve? Then they don’t lose him (he has been good until this latest stretch) and get someone for the rest of the year.

  11. Mason Crosby isn’t going anywhere. Period. First, he has done enough good in his five years with the team (including a big kick in a Super Bowl) to just be let go. The vast majority of his misses are from 50 plus. With the exception of the first miss today they all are solid kicks that are just not going through. Its a slump. When you are considering replacing a guy that the team committed a kings ransom for a kicker in July 2011 you better be 100% certain that he will not come out of it. Also, you have to be certain the currently unemployed kicker you bring in is better and ready to kick well in playoff type games. It makes zero sense to make a change every way you look at it.

  12. The Pack is letting go of Finley who is doing better and keeping Crosby who is doing worse.
Maybe it’s time they rethink these priorities.

  13. It’s tougher to kick in the weather they had in Chicago today. He’s still the best kicker in the NFL.

  14. If I was the packers I would use a roster spot for a second kicker. Let the other kicker work the rest of this season but don’t release Crosby. If he gets it together again next season they will regret that for years.

  15. Its not so much his misses but rather how badly he does miss them.

Some kicks come off his foot like a wounded duck, far left, then far right, its not even in the general neighborhood.

Crosby reminds me of my brother in-law on the golf course with a driver in his hand. We all know its about to get real entertaining, we just don’t know which direction it will go.
