Seahawks break it wide open in third quarter

Earlier this week, Bills General Manager Buddy Nix said that it was the right time for the team to trade up to get a quarterback.

Nix likely meant that he’d be doing it in April before or during the draft, but watching Ryan Fitzpatrick might make him try to find a way to do it sooner. Fitzpatrick has opened the second half by throwing an interception, losing a fumble while getting sacked and having another interception returned for a touchdown by Seahawks safety Earl Thomas. The score has ballooned from 31-17 to 47-17 halfway through the third, making it safe to chalk this one up in the win column for the Seahawks.

Fitzpatrick isn’t getting much help from the offensive line or receivers not named Stevie Johnson, but the pick by Thomas came on the kind of inexcusable throw under pressure that gets quarterbacks benched. Fitzpatrick didn’t see where he was throwing and left the ball in the air for Thomas to take without much trouble. It’s something we’ve seen too often from Fitzpatrick before Sunday, which was reason enough for Nix to be thinking about moving in another direction.

We’ll see how the Bills close things out, but we’re inclined to agree with Tim Graham of the Buffalo News who observed on Twitter that this is the kind of game that can get a coach fired.
