Terrell Suggs will play today

After a week on the sideline, Terrell Suggs is back on the field for the Ravens.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Suggs will play today, two weeks after suffering a torn biceps against the Steelers. Suggs missed last week’s game against the Redskins.

The torn biceps is the second injury this year from which Suggs has recovered very quickly. He also suffered a torn Achilles tendon during the offseason, an injury that for many players requires a recovery time of a full year, but he missed only the first six regular season games.

While it’s impressive that Suggs is playing at all, he hasn’t been quite the same player this year: After recording 14 sacks in 16 games last year, he has just two sacks in six games this year.

  1. Suggs may not be the same, but check Paul Kruger’s numbers since Suggs came back. Kruger has 6.5 sacks since Suggs returned and started getting double teamed across from him. Probably not a coincidence.

Michael David Smith: That’s a fair point, although you’re including Kruger’s 1.5 sacks against the Redskins last week in that 6.5, even though Suggs didn’t play last week. Overall Kruger has three sacks in six games without Suggs across from him and five sacks in six games with Suggs across from him.

  2. Sure, and it’s fair to call out last week’s 1.5 sacks with no Suggs. I watch all the Ravens games though and Kruger has been noticeably more disruptive since Suggs returned, whether he gets the sack, gets a hit, forces a quicker throw…

  3. Something isn’t quite right about his speed of recovery. He has to be on some kind of steroids.

Not that there is anything wrong with steroids when used properly. If it can be used to safely help people recover in a much shorter time period then maybe their use should be re-evaluated.

  4. I guess they figure a one-armed, one-legged t-fizzle is an improvement over the paper napkins they’d have to throw out there on the field otherwise.
