Texans clinch AFC South with 29-17 win over Colts

Arian Foster, Vontae Davis AP

The Texans hung on, and earned another patch to put on their letter jackets.

They clinched the AFC South with a 29-17 win over the Colts, and kept pace in their chase for home-field advantage through the AFC playoffs, pushing their record to 12-2.

The Texans did it by familiar means, playing the kind of old school football that they didn’t a week ago when they were shamed by the Patriots.

Arian Foster ran for 165 yards and they kept constant pressure on Colts quarterback Andrew Luck (four sacks), keeping the comeback kids at bay.

The Colts (9-5) proved they’re not an easy out for anyone, but until they catch up personnel-wise over the next offseason or two, they’re going to continue to lag behind the top teams in the AFC.

Give me Kirk Cousins over Andrew Luck everyday.

Nice win, but the Texans will never win a Super Bowl with Matt Schaub as their QB

JJ Watt with another huge day: 10 tackles, 3 sacks and 1 forced fumble for your Defensive Player of the Year.

Can’t wait to see Peterson against this run defense next week. He could easily be past 2000 before the end of that game. Dickerson has to be worried.

As a Texan fan, I am happy the Texans won the game and clinched the AFC South division title. Gaining home field advantage throughout the playoffs should be the goal now.
As I watched today’s game, I realized what I have known all season. The Texans will not win in the playoffs with the conservative playcalling of Gary Kubiak every week. The Texans should hire Norv Turner to be the offensive coordinator and gameday playcaller going forward. As soon as Norv Turner gets fired on Pink Slip Monday, he should be in Houston on the following Tuesday.

Ill take Kirk Cousins over Andrew Luck any day!

Andrew Luck almost threw for 50 percent. That’s a good game for him. Good game Luck! Personally i’d rather have RGIII. He just seems to play better. Oh yeah, and so does Cousins.

The colts play a good team and they get whooped.

    Hey Skins fans:
The Colts with Luck, new coaching stafff (and head coach out of action), essentially an expansion team with few veterans is 9-5.
The Skins with RG3, established coaching staff with Super Bowl rings, etc. and most of the team back from last year is 8-6.

We started off slow and came back and made it sort of a game. Proud of my Colts!

    Told you so.

Another sub 50% peformance from your “MVP” Luck.

Colts actually face a winning team and lose.

Colts fans are going to be searching for new excuses for why Luck is “better” than RG3 when they finish with the same record in the standings.

A couple of good drafts to replenish that o line and Luck becomes a dangerous young man. I am not anxious for that. Best wishes Colts fans.

Psh. Here comes the excuses. Your team won 10+ games for about 12 straight seasons, then had ONE bad year because you had garbage at QB and you tanked for a draft pick. All of a sudden your an expansion team??? The Colts lost one good player – Garcon. They had pretty much all of their team back.

How about the Skins laundry list of injuries or being hamstrung by the salary cap? Rookie QB, RB, 3rd and 4th string cornerbacks, etc etc.

Colts win and Luck is the MVP. Colts lose and they’re an “expansion team”. Ok. I guess that’s the reason why Luck is at the bottom of the league in rating and turnovers.

Colts have faced a creampuff schedule and they finally played another good team.

“They lost one good player”….lol. You seem to forget that 5 offensive starters are rookies. 35 players weren’t on this team last year. The core of this team was cut with Manning. Some other good players you missed: Jeff Saturday, Dallas Clark, Gary Brackett, Joe Addai, etc. This team was gutted. New HC, new GM, rookie QB (still a rookie no matter how good he is). The Colts weren’t expected to do ANYTHING this season. Yet here they are in the playoff hunt. They gave Houston a good game, but played like rookies with stupid mistakes. And you think the Colts don’t have injuries? Every team does by week 14! So stop with that crap. You Skins fans are something else…Delusional might be a good word. Not about your team, but refusing to acknowledge what the Colts have accomplished this season when no one had them winning more than 4-5 games

    1) I haven’t seen a defender dominate like that in a while. These numbers would be good for a good Dlineman in a MONTH. 10 tackles, 3 Sacks, 6 TFL, 2 tackles for no gain, and a FF on the 1 yd line that stopped a TD. DPOY locked up! If we get overall #1 seed and he breaks Reggie’s record by himself… MVP

    2) The offense struggled against a bad defense. 5 FGs and only 1 offensive TD isn’t going to cut it against Denver or NE. Got to get the rd zone issues sorted out.

    3) If the run D plays that bad next week, we might see history made before our eyes. AD will gash this run defense if we are not careful. Beat the Vikings and send the JV team to Indy.

Well now that the Colts and Skins virtually have the same team record, how does Luck’s season stack up against RGIII’s now? Lol

Skins23 says: “The Colts lost one good player – Garcon. They had pretty much all of their team back.”

Do Jeff Saturday or Peyton Manning (have you heard of him?) count. The only good player you think the Colts lost went to your team!

  18. avoidtheboyd says: Dec 17, 2012 2:46 PM

And now, thanks to the 49ers, the Texans are one win away from clinching the #1 seed.

  19. andylucksneck says: Dec 17, 2012 3:28 PM

The Leaf (luck) Griffin talk is getting old. It is completely obvious to everyone who the better QB is. Luck will be drawing plans for buildings in a couple of years while Griffin will be dusting his MVP trophies and Lombardi’s. Griffin is way better than leaf/luck.

  20. conbro8 says: Dec 18, 2012 5:03 AM

Hahaha “tanked the season”. I love this load– you morons (skins fans mostly for whatever reason) realize that the entire coaching staff and most of the roster from last year were gutted right? Stick to your dink and dunk pistol offense. Wait until everybody has film on it next year. Alsom RG3 had a great game this week eh? Oh wait…
