Harbaugh mum on Justin Smith MRI

49ers defensive lineman Justin Smith has undergone an MRI on his injured arm.  And coach Jim Harbaugh is saying nothing about what it revealed.

“It’s really going to be how he is today, tomorrow, Wednesday, before we know anything,” Harbaugh told reporters on Monday.

The 49ers are obligated to provide no information about Smith’s availability until Wednesday.  Then, they’ll be required only to say whether and to what extent he was prevented from practicing.  On Friday, the 49ers will apply one of the various labels to Smith — doubtful, questionable, probable, etc.

The Niners need Smith, if they hope to nail down the No. 2 seed in the NFC and the bye that goes along with it.  On Sunday night, the San Fran defense wasn’t the same without Smith.

They’ll need the defense to be the same and then some if the Niners hope to win in Seattle.

Most underrated player in the league

    Cowboy will ride Sunday.

kinda hard for him to hold on every play with that elbow.

I think having Cowboy healthy for the playoffs should be the priority. RJF is a very capable backup. He could start for a lot of teams in this league.

I hope he’s okay and cleared to play.

    Next Monday.

I have a feeling he’d have to be in pretty bad shape not to play. He’s got a long standing starts streak that’s now in jeopardy.

    Come on Cowboy…..be well!!

Brees look helpless with the big bear hug hit by Justin in this pic

He wasnt there for the last 3 drives, and New England only scored 3 points combined in those drives…. Just save him for the playoffs.

One more piece of evidence that Harbaugh is a total creep. He won’t tell the reporters anything about Smiths injury? What coach in their right mind does this? This is a total outrage. Man I hate Harbaugh. Why can’t RG3 coach this team?

    Hope the Cowboy is alright.

He’s one of the best D-lineman in the league.

Saying the defense was not the same fails to mention the 27 point lead at the time, or the soft zone the Niners were mistakenly in. When a stop was required, 2 straight sacks. Rickey Jean Francious will suffice for the short time.

Bad injury for the Niners. Even if he plays through the injury, Justin Smith needs healthy arms to be able to hold offensive linemen to allow Aldon Smith to get to the quarterback

Niners have never lost to pete caroll. thats gona change this week but they will wrap up the west no prob in AZ.

I’m no 49er fan but why should Harbaugh give away information for his opponent to use to game plan against him.

  17. dhragonn says: Dec 18, 2012 12:23 AM

He’s very important to say the least, but the niners are very capable of winning without him.

You are kidding right???hope?….this seattle team is a joke, right along with their head coach.Last time seattle beat a good team was when they got LUCKY and beat New England, the Bears were already on their downward spiral, and we ALL know they didnt beat Green Bay.seattle doesnt stand a chance come playoff time.keep dreaming seattle………

Harbaugh is going to milk this till Sunday.

My guess is Smith doesn’t practice all week, is listed as questionable, and plays on Sunday.

Basically there’s two modes to Jim Harbaugh … lying or saying nothing.

Huge loss if he is done.

so all the quality wins the 49ers have are matched by the seahawks, but the seahawks are lucky? face it, without justin smith there to hold all the offensive linemen, the niners defense is nowhere near as good. if smith doesn’t play, the seahawks have the upper hand in this matchup.

  23. northbynw27 says: Dec 18, 2012 8:10 AM

(Bill Lumbergh voice) “Yeah if you could just go ahead and not play against the Seahawks on Sunday that would be grrreeeaaaat.”

  24. nicepak381 says: Dec 18, 2012 9:48 AM

Looking forward to a great game Sunday night! Should be a tough one.

  25. novarito24 says: Dec 18, 2012 3:45 PM

Coach Harbaugh is a genius, only a real football fan would understand, the cowboy will be roping and riding on sunday, if not like coach always says next man up!!

  26. Mr. Wright 212 says: Dec 19, 2012 2:19 PM

If he doesn’t play, who’s going to illegally hold offensive linemen and free up Aldon Smith to run unabated into the backfield 15-20 times a game?
