Seamheresemthere do you realize other than last year crosby has finished in the bottom fourth of kickers in 5 seasons? For you to say he has been reliable and one of the best makes me wonder if you watch Packer games.

My biggest problem with Crosby is him missing by so much. It’s one thing if the kicks look OK and then hook at the last second or hit off the upright. However, Crosby has had about a half dozen misses where he is about 20 feet wide.

The problem is that there aren’t really any easy fixes that are Free Agents. All the guys available have at least one flaw: insufficient leg for kickoffs/long FG, lack of experience, or they were cut for missing too many FG or missing FG in the playoffs.

Crosby was one of the best and most reliable until this year. He is also being paid a lot of money-too much to just ‘eat it and cur him’ as some suggest.

It will make for an interesting post season though—any failed game winning-game tieing kick will fall to McCarthy and Thompson.

I’m a huge Packers fan and i like McCarthy but it’s time to find another kicker. When a coach has to pass up routine field goals to go for it on 4th down something is not right. It worries me that Crosbys woes will cost the Packers a win in the playoffs. I mean the bears just signed Olindo Mare off the street and he was hitting his field goals like nothing, so give me Kaeding or Longwell please.

Question to McCarthy… What statement are you going to use to address the media if/when Crosby misses a game-deciding fieldgoal in the playoffs? I’m not saying that situation is going to happen, but if it does, you better lose that stubborn tone of yours and have a better answer than “We’re not changing our kicker [for next season], so you can write that down right now.”

There are kickers who have great percentages in the regular season and one miss in the playoffs and they get cut…so Crosby better hope he does not miss a big one in the playoffs because that will end things quickly…

The 49ers are in the same boat. Akers has been bad all season but for some reason they just keep trotting him out there to miss FGs. I really hope it doesn’t bite them in the playoffs

I understand not wanting to completely cut ties with the guy, since we see guys get cut in knee-jerk situations like this often and then catch on somewhere else and have a few more outstanding seasons. But you have to at least bring in a few guys for auditions. He’s not that fragile mentally.

It would be a bad PR move, but from a football standpoint you might as well either cut Driver or put him on IR since he isn’t suiting up anyways, and sign an extra kicker that can hit a 45 yard field goal.

Just a point of clarification, Ted Thompson has the final say over the roster in Green Bay. He may defer to McCarthy’s wishes from time to time on this or that, but if Crosby costs the Packers a playoff win, it will be on Thompson, not McCarthy.

McCarthy’s actions of passing on FG attempts seems to be acknowledging his willingness to move on, no matter what words are spoken at press conferences for public consumption.

The Packers can’t afford to keep Crosby around for the playoffs. If they do, he will cost a game and help them to an early exit.

Crosby’s inconsistency has gone on too long. Why McCarthy hasn’t signed another kicker yet, at least for the stretch run, makes no sense.

That’s great. So when we lose a playoff game because of this turd, I’m sure McCarthy will still be saying the same thing. Bring in another kicker, you idiot! They kick a ball. It’s not like you’re bringing in someone who has to learn the entire offensive playbook. Orlindo freakin Mare was signed on Tuesday by the bears and he had no problems kicking two field goals yesterday.

In the playoffs every point is going to matter. How many easy field goals is Crosby going to miss in order for us to bring in a new kicker. If we lose a playoff game because he misses multiple field goals packer nation will be looking directly at MM. I have nothing against Crosby, he’s been a good kicker for us up until this year and seems like a decent enough of a guy but his time is over.

I appreciate loyalty but this is the worst funk I’ve seen a kicker in. He missed his first kick by twenty yards.
Playoff games often come down to clutch kicking. As a Packer fan I’m very worried.

To put crosby’s futility in perspective:

You have to go back to 2000 (Neil Rackers with Cincinnati) to find a field goal kicker with a percentage as bad as Crosby who managed to make it through an entire season with his team.

Seeing as how the Packers were beating the Bears so thoroughly, I was puzzled at the amount of time Buck & Aikman spent openly questioning the Packers for keeping Crosby around.

It looks to me like McCarthy’s reasoning is something along the lines of, “We’re still winning games, and as long as that happens we’ll just let him try to work it out.” I guess he’s hoping it just doesn’t come back to haunt him, like that goofy punt return they got away with…

Famous last words. Kickers are sort of a breed apart from the rest of the team but if you fail to hold him accountable for his performance, it will eventually rub off on the rest of them.

When you’re passing up 44 yard FGs for a conversion attempt on 4th and 6, it’s time to cut ties and move on to whoever is the best guy is on the street.
