The Panthers placed backup offensive lineman Zack Williams on injured reserve Tuesday.
On a normal day, it wouldn’t be much in the way of news. But the fact Williams tore his ACL during pre-game warmups last week in San Diego makes his injury one of the unluckiest.
He was active for the game, leaving the Panthers with just six active linemen. Fortunately, they were playing a Chargers team that by all appearances had given up.
To fill his roster spot, the Panthers signed guard Hayworth Hicks off the Buccaneers practice squad. Hicks had been with the Jets for a stint earlier this year.
