Source: Jets have made no decisions about Sanchez

Reuters

In response to the report from Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News that the Jets will try to trade quarterback Mark Sanchez, a source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that no decisions have been made regarding Sanchez’s future with the team.

Per the source, the Jets will consider all options after the season.  Eventually, a determination will be made.

Of course, it’s impossible to consider all options without knowing whether anyone is willing to trade for Sanchez and, if so, what they would offer — both in compensation to the Jets and contribution to the $8.25 million base salary for which the Jets are on the hook.

So it’s not that the Jets will “try” to trade Sanchez.  They’ll look at every option and then make a decision.

That’s the smarter way to proceed.  If, after all, the Jets have decided to trade Sanchez and only one team is interested, the Jets will have zero leverage.  In that case, the possibility of keeping him becomes the tool for squeezing better terms.

  1. Thank you for noting that in order to make a trade, someone has to want what you’re offering. I’m not sure anyone will trade for Sanchez, given his contract/production.

If they really want him, they can hope the Jets cut him and get him for pennies on the dollar.

It has to stink to be a Jets fan. I know how it feels–in baseball, my team is the Pirates.

  2. I made a comment and my computer shut down. What it all boils down to is that you guys have not been in contenting since the superbowl and you can thank the Raiders and the Heidi Bowl for that. Had it not been for that game and the championship game later on in which you won due to snow and cold windy weather, there would be no guaranttee. You were being solidly beat even in the conditions and namath had broken a finger as I recall and yet you set some illegal picks and were able to score which would lead up to other mishaps or screw ups by refs. as I would like to have call them such as the Immaculate reception and the tuch rule and hardly anybody remembers the goal line stance the Raiders put up against Denver in which we recovered the ball and in the endzone and for a possible touchdown and yet they called the runnign back down and the Broncos scored on the next play. I won’t even talk about the game where Rich Gannon was rolled over by fat man who is now announdcing with the moose that is appropriately called the goose, appropriately named, again so the Raider don’t go to the super bowl. So by my count. With alll the cheating and bad calls the Raiders should have been in about 10 super bowls instead of five and if you go by their current average, they should be up over Pittsburgh by over 3 trohphies. So I hope I am not the ony one sticking up for the Al Davis legacy or legend.

  3. The Y-E-T-S Yets Yets Yets would be better off dumping Sachize ASAP. Keeping him around to poison the so called, team? Everyone on the team and off, has an opinion of Sanchize—rarely will one find a positive comment. Hope Tebow gets to display his arsenal of weapons, next year, against the 0 – 9 Yets. Say goodnight, Dick.

  4. The Drama the Drama.
    WHO CARES.
Sanchez is not the 2nd coming.
The Jets cannot possibly get this much pub.
I can’t believe they are not starting Tebow. He would pull HUGE ratings just so people could watch him either tear it up or crash and burn.
Rex should be fired just for being to stupid (or arrogant) not to start him in the biggest grease fire in the NFL which is the Jets.
Come on Rex… feed the animals !

  5. I’m going to go out on a limb and say the Brown got the better of that trade that gave the Jets Sanchez in the first place –

I think we can also safely declare Broncos coming out on top with their trade with NY too.

This track record may make teams eager to do a deal with NY!

  6. “In that case, the possibility of keeping him becomes the tool for squeezing better terms.”
better terms? If a team offers a 7th rd pick and takes on any salary the Jets should jump on it.
The kid has had plenty of starts with a very safe run oriented offense. He only had to not screw up and all he has done is regressed.

  7. The Jets have zero leverage, period. It doesn’t matter what they leak or how they want to dress it up. No one wants anything to do with Sanchez.

The Jets stroked his ego and wiped his butt for him 4 straight years, and he was too mentally weak to deal with being a starting QB(when he had no legit competition in any of his 4 seasons).

It’s only going to get tougher for him when his next team doesn’t baby him for 4 years straight.

  8. With how much he’ll cost, and how much he sucks, the only chance he gets traded is if they offer sanchez and a 3rd rounder for a 6th round pick…give or take.

  9. By the way, I was watching nfl films the day they showed the game and yu can see where things were editid from the film as to make it look like not only did frenchie fuqua not touch the ball, Harris who ws actually blocking on the play and half unconcious, saw a ball bouncing is way and picked it up like a fumble because he thought it was behind the line of scrimmage and ran in in virtually untouched because of the clip un Vilipiano, number 41. So tell be how could he of caught the ball in the air let alone on his shoe strings and Mr. Frnchi Fuqua, you my friend are the sadest human being of all as you know the ball bounce off you shoulder pad and being the crappy fullback that you our you our stretched hands touched nothing and ball hit both your chest and your should pads as you were bashed from behind by Mr. Jack Alias “the assaissan”- and the altimate reason the ball bounced backwars toward you offensive line which your half back happened to be blocking for you past the your own 30 yard line and a 4 and whatever with 22 seconds or less left in the game. At least have the decency to admidt it and by the way I feel sorry for number 32 as well for raping this play as another 32 would and not admiditing you picked this ball up on two mayebe 3 bounces down or up the field whichever way you backward mind wants to describe and I feel the most sad for Terry Bradshaw who doesn’t even recall what happened except for the lound cheers. How much scotch did you drink the nite before that game. That 40 plus yard run by Stabler, as heavy as he and as slow as he is should have been the icing on the cake and you guys ruined a perfectly great play by Jack Tataum, who knocked into Fuqua whch consequently rejected off him and fell to the ground is how that man should have felt going to his grave because it was perfectly timed and knew the play ws dead and didn’t even go to follow that acting play by Franco Harris to get a double bounced ball and run it in the endzone like it was caught in the air. You yourself admitted you were blocking behind the line of scrimage to try and protect Bradshaw who was going to be brought down by the rush if you were not there. So how does he throw a desperation throw over 46 yards and your still able to cath a ball that has been slammed d0wnward by the crash from behind from Tatam. Game over. Our ball with less than 14 seconds left it the game if play called right. Game over. 7-6 Raiders. You were so beat up. you lost the following Saturday or Sunday to the Undefeated Miami Dolphins, who guess what we would have beat and did beat their streak of games on a Monday Nite football game the
following year. Talk aboout your one and done. They killed you and are team was a much better match up for them but nobody remembers that do they?

  10. Better terms? No one is trading for Sanchez without a new deal in place. Sanchez and his agent would be idiots to budge on the current deal. They have the Jets between a rock and a hard place on this one.

  11. I have heard of desparation plays but to let this go on for 40 years with not one, not two but at least 3 bad calls in one game is something I hope haunts you guys for the rest of your lives and the fact that yu have prospered on ths fallacy should and will haunt yu in your graves. Mr. Fuqua or however your name is spelled, by did you go into the Raider locker room, late after the game and tell Raymond Chester that the ball was banged off you chest after you had no chance of catching it after Jack Tatum crushed you. Tatum is dead now and you left him never at peace nomater wht he did in the past. Why would you tell the truth in another teams locker roomand than go on with this farce. Even of you barely touched the ball and got knocked the hell out of by jack tatum, it is an illegal touch. End of story. You have won three super bowls under the guise that you did something spectacular, when indeed you are jst a lyar in the eyes of the lord and by now at your age you shoud be a God fearing man. The game is 40 years over. Tell the Truth. Did the NFL gve you extra money to make this farce a legend because obvioulsy they altered the tapes. I was just a boy but really loved the way football as played back then and there was a lot of missed calls just in that play alone but the most disturbing is that you wont admit that a better team than you, beat you that day on your own turf. And that spectacular credit shoud go to John Madden not Chuck Nolls. Are you really going to let madden die too before you finallly come clean. Just the fact that you and Harris are iffy about it, make yu entirelly guilty in my eyes as a faithfall 13 year old Raider fan as well as the refs. that were scared to make the right call by asking how much security was on the field at that moment.

  12. Off course the Jets haven’t made any decision yet. Sanchez is about as attractive as Matt Cassel right now, not good enough to carry your team yet way too expensive as a back-up. No other team will be willing to take on that contract. Outright release is the only solution.

  13. Unless it comes from the owner it is just speculation. That extension was one of the dumbest business decisions I have seen. There was no safety net in case he was horrible… again. There will be a change at the top and then player decisions will be made.

  14. This whole organization should just go away. Disappear. They are a joke. An embarrassment to the league. They have a coach that hasn’t a clue about offense, and an oc that knows even less.
They leak information on a daily basis, and it’s all doom and gloom. Rotten club, and it all starts at the top. The lap band one, who is still fat as hell, by the way. Ain’t that a bitch!

  15. The jets need to make a decision on the jets first. Then worry about this sorry sorry organization. this team is worse than the buccaneers and saints of the late 1970s and 1980s. Just Pathetic. !!!!!!

  16. i think the reason Marky Mark was better his first 2 seasons was because he hadnt really had time to let the festering miasma of coach rex get into his system yet.

I also bet that if another team with a good coach gets hold of him he’ll live up to his potential. Rex is just a horrid coach, as many other very good coodrinators before him were (wade philips, spags anyone?).

  17. If I were the jets I would make sure they trade both Sanchez and Tebow to teams in their division. That way they would get at least four wins next year.

Actually I would be wrong about them beating Tebow.

  18. Allow me to help the inept Jets with this one. Cut the guy and eat the money. No one in their right mind is trading for Sanchez with the nut that he is owed next year. Just cut ties, suck up the loss and move forward. Make sure Sporano is riding shotgun on the bus leaving town also.

  19. Mark always thought of himself as a NY, GQ cover, Namath type. He is not. He is a Cali boy. Once he is out of the NY lifestyle and media and gets a second chance in another program, I believe he can have some success in the NFL. He is a headcase and before every throw he was already thinking too much about how the NY media was going to rip him a new one. A fresh start is exactly what Mark, and the Jets, need.

  20. As a Patriots fan, and i’m sure Bills and Fins fans feel the same way, it is my fervent hope that the Jetz will hold on to Sanchez and Sexy Rexy for the foreseeable future, say the next ten years. The 49-19 blowout at the hands of my Pats was so much fun I want to see it again and again! I’ll even let you Jetz fans scream about Spygate if you want! Just keep Sanchez and Rex!

  21. Trade value for Sanchez is zero. He makes too much money so even if a team wanted him as a backup, they’d never trade for him–they’d wait for him to be released so they could sign him to a backup’s deal.

  22. “Jets have made no decision about Sanchez” therein lies the problem, if an organization can’t tell after 4 years that a certain player doesn’t have it, who is the problem , the player or the organization? in this case it’s the Jets management, and whoever is responsible for extending Sanchez two more years should be looking for a job right about now.

  23. At best right now Sanchez is a potential back-up quarterback and that’s how other teams are viewing him. I see teams like the Cardinals, Kansas City, and Jacksonville being interested in him.
